Is it possible to use PURE to progressively enhance an existing HTML
document. For example, if I already have basic structure of product
thumbnails and links, can I use PURE to augment the display with
additional features?

Sure, except for repeated nodes.
You need to remove them all but one.
To compile a function.
Then you can re-use it at each user interaction.
