PAL2.0 Hardy Ubuntu intel wireless device

DRiver: wext
hardware: intel wireless device

1. Install wicd (from synaptic manager). It will ask you if you would
be willing to remove network manager, say yes
2. Re-install wpasupplicant and ca-certificates from synaptic manager
3. Get rid wpa_supplicant.conf if you find one in /etc/wpa_supplicant
folder, WICD has its own, you dont need this
4. go to /etc/wicd/encryption/templates/
5. Create a new file called purdue (no extensions no last name)

open it using command: sudo gedit purdue
and modify its contents using the following

name = purdue
author = Fralaltro
version = 1
require identity *Identity password *Password
-----
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
network={
ssid="PAL2.0"
scan_ssid=1
proto=WPA RSN
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
pairwise=TKIP
group=TKIP
eap=PEAP
identity="$_IDENTITY"
password="$_PASSWORD"
ca_cert="/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt"
phase1="peaplabel=0"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
}


save and exit gedit

6. Now allow your wicd to read the file, by typing in the command
(note you are in the directory /etc/wicd/encryption/templates/)

sudo chmod 777 purdue

7. start wicd you will see PAL 2.0 instructions click on the arrow to
enter advance settings, and uncheck the box (if checked) that says
"automatically connect to this network". you dont want automatic
connection to this network

8. Click on advanced settings

in the dialouge box do the following

a. check "use these settings for all network sharing this essid"
b. check "use encryption, and you will see a drop down menu, here you
should be able to see "purdue" as one of the networks
c. in identity and password feed your career account username and
password
d. Click ok
e press connect

This should get you started

The method works fantastic. I did have to do one more step though.
After you create the encryption template you need to add the name to a
file called "active" to get it to show up as a choice.
In the /etc/wicd/encryption/templates/ directory perform the command:
sudo gedit active
then add purdue to the bottom of the list.
save and exit
This should add the name purdue to the encryption list.

I followed the exact same procedure but I am not able to see "purdue"
as one of the networks.
Has anyone else faced the same problem.

Here's an updated version of the instructions incorporating the
comments above.

Hi,
 Is there anything change recently in PAL2.0? I was able to connect
to PAL2.0 last year. I changed my laptop, and did not bring it to
campus for a while. Now, when I do all the things I got here, with
WiCD, I got the message: "Connection Failed: Bad password". Is it a
standard message when things fail? (I recalled last year, when I
wasn't able to connect, it says something like handshake failed, since
something was wrong with the certificates file. But now, bad password?
I do check my email, my webmail with Purdue. Does any of you encounter
the same problem?
