The Gotham Pulp Collectors Club met today and we had some terrific
discussions and showed off some great detective pulps.

Our discussions included a report to people who couldn't attend Windy
City what happened there, the dearth of pulps generally, how a new
generation of people is more apt to recognize the importance and
influence on literature and popular culture of the pulps, but aren't
entering the hobby collecting them, pulp art (Robert Lesser was there
today), and other stuff relating to collecting.

I brought about 20 detective pulps including three early issues
(including the first) of Thrilling Detective, an early Popular
Detective and a 1937 issue of Black Book Detective, plus 1936 issue of
Dime Detective, an All-Story Detective, Strange Detective Mysteries,
Double Detective, the first issue of Candid Detective, FBI Detective,
and Exciting Detective, plus some others.

Ed Hulse brought in some beautiful condition (are there any other kind
for Ed?) Black Mask (a couple of real early ones, plus some later
Popular Pub issues), Dime Detective, New Detective, Detective Fiction
Weekly, Detective Story, and even an early Popular Detective.

We saw an episode of serial (I think it was Phantom Harbor?, where Kane
Richmond plays Captain Jim Marsden) and we all went away happy.

Ed Hulse, Chris Kalb, Robert Lesser, and I went out to a coffee shop
after the meeting and talked for another couple of hours.

A good time was had by all and I wish all of you other
Gotham/Metropolitan pulp collectors could have made it.

We decided out theme for next month would be the western pulps.

Mark
