As you can see, I haven't posted a game this week. We should all
kinda take a poll and figure out how people are feeling about the
group. I sure enjoy playing, and with the new approach, I have
material to run games for a long time without so much preparation.
That said, it's clear I haven't had time to actually RUN a game for a
few weeks now (and don't tonight!), so I'm not sure what people want
to do.

My wife's job actually just took a big turn for the easier, which will
probably really improve my lack of time issue in the near future (say
a week or two), but no guarantees.

What would you all like to do? I'm still up for running a game
whenever I can manage to squeeze in a Thursday night, but I know it's
frustrating to have long absences from the storyline.

It's frustrating, yes, but, I'm still willing to stick it out.  I'm having fun whenwe do play.  You're a great bunch to game with and you, FW, are a great DM. So, count on my support.

Sigh.  Tough question, and one I've thought about a lot.

I'd be fibbing if I said the sporadic nature of the game hasn't lessened my interest.  As a purely RPing matter, I have a tough time getting invested in a character without regular sessions.  Also, other matters (both social and professional) begin to take precedence if I can't count on that Thursday night slot being filled on a regular basis.  Given the complexity of my schedule, I find it difficult to block off that time period from other commitments when I know there's a better-than-even chance that there won't be a game.  Were it solely up to me, I'd probably withdraw gracefully from gaming at this point and let John get on with life.

That said, I really think we're talking the end of the era for this group (especially with John at the helm), if our experimental return to PNP falls through.  I don't see us going back to NWN given the time commitment involved, or joining some MMORPG to engage in mindless questing.  Maybe that's for the best; I think we've all enjoyed the games immensely, but I couldn't fault anyone for feeling like it's time to move on to other things.  And we've been doing this a long time.  I think that the last thing any of us would want is for our sessions to continue past the point where we're having fun, and become a burden for all of us, because none of us says anything out of concern that everyone else wants to keep going.

Yet because this is a decision point for the group, I will commit to continuing if the group decides to continue -- i.e., I won't drop out by myself (at least in the near future) if the rest of you want to keep going.

So to sum up, that's a vote to end from me, but I will continue if the majority favors continuing.

Oh, and one further thought, in case it wasn’t clear.  I am by no means intending to be critical of John’s running of the game.  To the contrary, John is the best DM I have ever played with.  I am grateful for the time he has given to the group over the years, and do not begrudge the fact that gaming sometimes must take second place to family and real life (as I hope it does for all of us).

I like playing and don't want it to end.

I'd prefer to continue playing, but honestly there will be times I
cannot make it and there will be times I know John can't do it. This
is the problem with being adults with responsibilities, both
professional and familial. Jeff echoes some of my thoughts at least
with respect to how periodic absences lessen the ability to stay
within and enjoy the character. However, even when I miss some or we
all miss some, when we do start up again, my role play is a little
rough and it takes an hour or so to get back in character and in the
groove with things, but I almost always seem to get there and I can
honestly say that I always get enjoyment from our sessions.

The new format is a throwback which I am enjoying very much and which
affords much more flexibility than NWN did, though frankly, I still
hope for developments in NWN (current customization is still great)
and NWN2 (customization in its infancy, but potential is there) that
may enable a more table top feel combined with the great graphical
environments. With John's apparent schedule, our current format is
probably more reasonable, though I am not giving up on checking in
with futurenights and d20mm.

My vote is yes, though a realistic yes that our continued play, while
enjoyable, will be fractured, sometimes with my absence, sometimes
with no game and sometimes with others absent. Commitment to the game
is important, but not as important as other commitments. The
enjoyment currently still overrides the fractured play for me.

I think given what Tony and Stephanie said, and the fact that Nol has in general been up for signing up when the game does get posted, let's think about it this way - I've known plenty of gaming groups that play when they get the chance - which is often less frequent than once a week.  They get together when their schedules all align.

So how about this?  I don't want people to have to write off Thursday nights when we're not going to play.  I'll commit to posting the game nice and early and sticking with it - no backing out on MY part - and if you don't get that notice, then you don't have to stress about Thursdays.

This week is already shot for me - and we're past any sort of posting deadline anyway.  So we'll try for next week, and if you guys don't see a posting by say Saturday, then assume no game.  Anything else just isn't fair.

Again, we'll continue the game, but there will only be games when I announce them by the SATURDAY before.

Thanks for all the comments - I really do enjoy playing with this group, and hopefully we'll continue stumbling along :)
