Printer Delays (win XP, fairly new pc with USB2 connection) Samsung SCX-4200

I have Samsung MFP printer model SCX-4200. Had it about 2 weeks, seemed
to
work well, but have not used it alot until now.
I have long delays in priting simple documents. Eg one line of text in
"note
pad" when printed, ques for around 5 mins then all of a sudden prints
out
!!????
If printing in excel or word the same thing happens? My old samsung ML
model
worked just fine (although this was connected by parallel cable).
My set up is a Windows XP machine AMD athlon XP2200 processer, 512MB
DDR ram.
USB2 port connection between the PC and Samsung SCX-4200 printer.
Scanner & copier seem to work ok. I've tried turning all components
off,
rebooting, uninstalling drivers and re-installing.
Still the problem persists. This is really annoying and is spoiling my
enjoyment of the printer !
