As a Publicist working closely with media-person it is always sad to se such state of affairs.

I wonder who will safeguard interests of Media community when Media groups and journalists are involved in such tactics.

Murtaza Chaudhry is my former colleague from initial Aaj TV days and has made his mark in political satire.

I'm from Geo and that gives me the license to Carry out Illegal raids | PakistanTribeOn the morning of April 5th at around 6:00 am, the Karachi police raided the house of Mustafa Chaudhry & Faysal Chaudhry, who are famous TV anchors & journalists.

This atrocious act was spearheaded by 35 policemen who were sent by SSP Pir Muhammad Shahunder influence of Afzal Nadeem Dogar (a crime reporter at Geo News).

The police initiated this shameless act by brutally kicking the door of their house early morning. Both the celebrities were man-handled by Police who slapped and dragged them in front of their parents and took both to an unknown place.

Police covered their faces, told them to recite Kalma and shot bullets besides their temples to scare hell out of them. Mustafa and Faysal, who are known for their intellectual humor and distributing smiles throughout Pakistan, were treated cruelly with scant regard to norms of civilization.

Upon seeing their children being brutally handled just at the dawn stroked, the parents of Faysal and Mustafa went looking for them to the area’s respective Police station which was the Gulistan e Joharpolice station where after an agonizing wait of 4 hours they were told that both of the undisputed kings of satire were in the custody of Aziz Bhatti police station.

When the family elders got to the Aziz Bhatti police station, there they had been made to wait for another 2 hours after which both, Faysal and Mustafa were presented before their parents with their hands in the police cuffs, upon inquiring about the crime they had committed, the Policemen at Aziz Bhatti police station failed to give any satisfactory statement and also failed to produce any legit legal document which would support the act of Police that was carried hours back.

What’s must to be mentioned is that both, Faysal and Mustafa Chaudhry along with their eldest brother Murtaza Chaudhry had resigned from GEO TV Network some months back over differences with the management and just days later Express Media group showed interest in hiring the Satire Kings for their media firm and eventually did end up hiring them.

Coming back, around 2PM, Police were forced to release Faysal and Mustafa due to lack of evidence leading to their illegal custody upon interference and constant pressure from friends, family and their current employers.

The trio of the multi talented Murtaza, Mustafa and Faysal Chaudhary have given life to the wordcomedy when it comes to Pakistani media, The very talented youngsters kicked off with their career with launching the First Satirical Comedy News Show in Pakistan on AAJTV which later went to become Banana News Network(BNN) on Geo TV Network.

After thorough investigations, it was confirmed that the raid was carried out on the behest of Afzal Nadeem Dogar, a Geo Journalist – Question here arises is that why is the media house playing dirty even when the 3 had very respectfully parted ways with the media giant over certain disagreements.

Interesting mail thread. Lot of condemnation but no word on why the "action" came into effect in the first place.

I am surprised to see so much noise and finger pointing against me for supposedly playing a role in influencing the police to act against an innocent group of people.

Although the story that is being told by Murtaza, Mustafa and Faysal is a complete lie, the reality is that early morning on March 23, 2014, Murtaza Chaudhry, Mustafa Chaudhry and Faysal Chaudhry attacked Mubeen Gabol. All the four individuals had once been colleagues at Geo TV's BNN. As stated by Mubeen, the trio of Murtaza, Mustafa and Faysal joined forces to thrash him after their leaving BNN (Geo TV). After this incident, Mubeen had himself examined by the doctors at JPMC who validated his condition. Armed with this legal document, he tried his level best to have an FIR registered with the police but was unable to do so.

I bumped into Mubeen Gabol at the office of the DIG East Mr. Muneer Shaikh on April 4, 2014. I was at the DIG's office to cover a press conference while Mubeen Shaikh was visiting in order to plead his case and get an FIR registered against his attackers. It was at this juncture that I heard Mubeen's story for the first time. Since his story added up and he also had the relevant documentation, I introduced him to the DIG and requested him to look into the case. Since the DIG too found the complaint to be legitimate, he referred the matter to SSP Pir Muhammad Shah under who's direction FIR was lodged.

As per normal police practice, the police conduct raids to arrest anybody nominated in an FIR for investigation. It was this reason why the police raided the residences of those nominated in the FIR and subsequently arrested them. Although I am not in a position to comment on the behavior of the police at the time of the arrests, I can confirm that this is the normal modus operandi of the police. I can also confirm that once an FIR has been lodged, it is only up to the court to release a suspect from custody. However, if any person or group is influential enough to raid the police station where nominated suspects are being held and have them released forcibly, this group is hardly in a position to blame anyone for using influence notoriously when all that the person did was to help an individual in having a genuine FIR lodged.

Mr. Mubin Gabol has requested me to post the following reponse on his behalf as he is not a presspakistan member and deems necessary to share his point of view on this platform.

"In response to allegations leveled by Mustafa Chaudhry, Faisal Chaudhry and Murtaza Chaudhry, I would like to offer my response.

On April 5, the three above mentioned people were taken into police custody after a FIR had been registered against them. The three alleged that they were illegally detained and created a controversy on social media and a news channel maligning myself and members of the organisation I work for.

I had registered an FIR against the three after being threatened of dire consequences for six months. The threats were made after the three had left a news channel and wanted me to leave with them. I had informed them that I would be continuing on my present position and was not interested in leaving.   This is when the threats began. Phone calls were made to my mother and she was told that the family should leave Karachi and her son stop working on Banana News Network, otherwise he would be killed.  These threats were a great cause of stress on my entire family who feared for their life and were forced to return to my village.

The three also tried to threaten me via my colleagues sending messages that I would be shot. My colleagues were told to leave the show and join their new project as they would be taking measures to ensure that Banana News Network would cease to exist.

On March 23 approximately at 4:00 AM, I returned home after BNN's shoot and was confronted while parking my car. Mustafa Chaudhry, Faisal Chaudhry and Murtaza Chaudhry threatened to shoot me as they waved their gun and physically assaulted me. I was beaten brutally for 15 minutes while the three kept on shouting that I leave Karachi and the news organisation I work for.  I managed to escape and make my way home as the three fled.  Fearing of further attacks I did not leave my house till the afternoon to receive treatment at a hospital.  My beating was so severe that my shoulder was severely hurt and till this day I have to wear a brace.  The beating not only impacted me physically and mentally but also affected my work as I could not shoot my show.

During this period the threats continued and I was left with no other option but to approach the police for protection. On March 29, I submitted an application in the Gulsitan-e-Johar police station. Despite my faith in the police and repeated follow-ups, no action was taken against the three. The police informed me that they could not take action against the three as they were powerful and influential.

On April 4, I decided to take my case to a high-ranking police official and met with DIG East Munir Sheikh. I informed Mr. Sheikh of the threats and attack and pleaded that he help me lodge an FIR against Mustafa, Faisal and Murtaza.  Mr. Sheikh directed me to SSP East PM Shah who lodged an FIR on the morning of April 5 at approximately 3 AM.

From my knowledge police took action against Mustafa and Faisal taking them into custody while Murtaza roamed freely. Following their arrests the news channel which employs the three started a baseless propaganda in an attempt to pressure the police. The MD of this news channel continuously called AIG Shahid Hayat seeking to secure the release of Mustafa and Faisal. Giving into this pressure, Mustafa and Faisal were released despite being charged under section 337 (A) and 506-B. To my knowldge, Under these sections the accused have to be presented in court before being granted bail.

I have been trying to seek answers from the police regarding why Mustafa and Faisal were released and have been informed that they (police) had been pressurized by a news channel and thus they could not take any further action.

As a proud citizen of Pakistan I do not want to lose faith in the country’s police.  I took action under the law and unfortunately have had to pay the price for this. I have been called a liar and falsely accused of acting outside the law.  I appeal that people do not pass judgment after hearing just one side of the story and take facts into account".

What kind of story is it? trio Chaudharies threatened a colleague just to join them in their next project otherwise he'll be dead... Is there somebody come up with the inside real story. As both of these are not yet cleared the situation.

Why this blunt attack on these three electronic media journalists....In my view they had not signed a marriage pact with the Geo Group.. Every single journalist has a  right to join any of the groups with better package.. Geo should not have penalized them as everyone knows that there is business war between the  Lakhanis and the Meers. There are many other forums where the Meer can settle his personal scores... with then Lakhanis....

I did have the chance to talk to Murtaza Chaudhry first and later with Mubeen Gabol. If Mubeen approached the police first, the story needs to be investigated independently. Since corporate interests of Geo and Express group may also be at play here, I would advise caution in rushing to a judgment.
Let the truth come out first before we comment.
