Encouragement & Celebration .
July 2012 update on the ministry of Scott & Sharon MacLean serving in Italy
with CrossWorld
"Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and
sing praises." - Psalm 98:4
"When people tell me things like - 'You've changed.' 'I don't recognize you
anymore.' 'You are not the same person.' or even 'they have brain washed
you.' - it fills me with joy. Because it is the greatest compliment that
the people of the world could possibly give me."
This was part of one testimony that we heard at the baptism back in May.
The parents of this new believer had also noticed the change in their son.
They told us that he was just not the same person - that he had changed
drastically.
The other testimonies were also moving - hearing of how God had worked in
the hearts and lives of these young people. I had to wipe tears from my
eyes as I heard them tell of finding acceptance in Jesus Christ, or of how
close they had come to getting involved in Satan worship - and their
amazement that God would save them.
It was truly a moment of joy and celebration. Three youth (all college and
career age) gave public testimony of their faith in Christ through baptism.
Despite the rainy weather, there was an excellent turnout and the hall we
borrowed for the baptism was standing room only. The guest speaker gave a
clear and powerful presentation of the Gospel message.
Please pray that the Lord would use the words that were spoken to touch the
hearts of the many unsaved family members and friends that came.
We also have been greatly encouraged by signs of God's hand at work in the
hearts of folks we know. Two people in particular seem to be very close to
making decisions for Christ. It has been great to see how God has used
various people in the church, and other unexpected sources, to draw these
people toward Himself.
The children's clubs in the park have also been an encouragement. After
several years of not having to request permission, last fall we were told we
needed to have permission - and were granted permission for only two of the
four days we requested.
This year things were not looking good, but in the end God granted us favor
in the eyes of the man who runs the park and he told us that we could hold
our clubs whenever we wanted to - and even offered to promote them on the
park's Facebook page.
We have had good weather so far this summer and have already managed to have
club five times. There has also been a good turnout of kids (along with
some of their parents and even a few teens). Our best turnout was for our
puppet skit of the story of the Good Samaritan.
It is interesting to see how over the years we have now had a complete
turnover in the kids who are attending as the kids have grown up. Please
pray that the seeds of Gospel truth that have been sown this summer (and
over the years) will find fertile ground in the hearts of these kids (and
parents).
As we prepare to travel to the U.S. on August 1 to begin our time of home
ministry, we ask you to pray that we will be able to get Luana a passport in
time for our departure. Finalizing things with the adoption took much
longer than predicted. But we have seen God's hand at work in this as well.
Just a few weeks ago things looked nigh unto impossible. But a piece of
advice from a judge, and a timely decision by the court were a big help.
Now we must wait for her name change to wind its way through the residency
office in Turin. It is taking a long time. Please continue to pray that
the Lord would cause things to move fast enough for us to get the passport
by July 27.
Our home ministry is set to run from August 1 to October 29. Details of our
schedule are on the "Home Ministry" page of our web site. We look forward
to seeing as many of you as possible during this abbreviated home ministry.
Please feel free to get in contact with us if you would like to schedule a
time together.
Also, we are substantially short in our financial support at the moment. In
the short term (over the next few months), this is not a problem. But
CrossWorld has urged us to try to raise at least another $1,150/month by the
end of our home ministry later this year. And yes, that figure has gone
down since the last letter due to some support increases. :) But we would
still need about $2,270/month to get to full support. Normally we would
have the possibility of extending our home ministry if we did not reach
these goals. Our situation with the adoption does not leave us with that
possibility. We must return as scheduled on October 29. Please pray for
the Lord's provision of these needs.
Thank you so much for your prayers. You are an important part of God's work
here in Domodossola!
His Servants,
Scott & Sharon MacLean
