Hi All,

Last weekend was full of fun and joy.
We had some new volunteers and kids joining Prarambh for the first
time.

New Faces at Prarambh:

This time we had two new volunteers  ,

[Shambhavi Pandey]: She has recently joined Pune DC after completing
her training from Mysore DC (The place every Infosicion loves). She
came to know about Prarambh through BB and thought of sharing her time
and knowledge with the kids.

In her own words: -” It was a wonderful experience on Sunday and I was
pleasantly surprised to see such sharp and young minds so keen to
learn.”

[Geetika Gera]: She is also working with Infosys and came to know
about Prarambh through BB.

In her own words: -” I had a valuable experience on Sunday meeting
these little cheerful kids who were so eager to study and helping them
to learn gave me happiness.”

Below are the activities performed by different volunteers, last
weekend.

Saturday: Nov 07, 2009

• [Ankit]

[Nilesh Shinde]: As he was new to Prarambh So,
I took a test to decide his level. He is suitable for Level 2.

[LEVEL 1]

• [Ankit]

[Supriya]: I asked her to write ABCD. She was able to write till D so,
we practiced to write letters E and F.
[LEVEL 2]
• [Dev]:

[Sudhir and Azhar]: We worked on sentences involving use of ‘in’. Then
ready story of Uttappi, good demon, followed by games.
[LEVEL 3]
• [Payoshni]:

[Prateeksha, Nikita and Ganesh]: I taught Prateeksha, Nikita and
Ganesh .We wrote 6-7 sentences about their favourite festival Diwali,
which included simple sentences and a few difficult words. Each
sentence had elements of Diwali. We also wrote its Marathi/ Hindi
translations below the English sentence for better understanding.
Later we compiled 15 difficult words from the Para with its spelling
and meaning.
[LEVEL 4]
• [Ashish]:
[Aishwarya, Pooja, Rahil and Deeksha]: I came after the Diwali
vacations so preferred to connect with the kids again. Played business
game with them which proved to be nice time with them.

Sunday: Nov 08, 2009

• [Ankit]

[Amit Sanjayhavde and Prashant Yadav]: As they came to Prarambh for
the first time, so I took a test to decide their level. Both are good
for level2.
[LEVEL 1]
• [Shakeb]:

[Shraddha]: Revised Shraddha capital and small letters. Corrected her
minor errors.

[Supriya]: She is good at letter from A to F, needs more practice.

[Sudarshan]: A bit disappointed with this chap. Started with A B C,
but dint go much ahead.
[LEVEL 2]
• [Ankit]:

[Amit, Prashant, Sudhir, Azhar and Nilesh]: I first asked them to
write tables from 6 to 12. Almost all of them got it right with some
mistakes which I corrected. Later on, I gave them two digit
multiplication problems. The kids did lot of mistakes as they were not
clear with the concept and don’t remember tables orally. I taught them
two digit number multiplication concept after which the kids solved
the problems correctly. After some time Amit, Sudhir and Azhar joined
Geetika and Shambhavi.

• [Geetika]:

[Amit]: I taught Amit 2 digit multiplication. Initially he was
fumbling with the numbers but after doing some practice questions he
got hold of it. He has not memorized all the tables and was looking in
the notes for reference. He also had a little problem with basic
multiplication especially with 0 and 1 which with a little effort he
then understood.

• [Shambhavi]:

[Sudhir and Azhar]: I taught them 2-digit multiplication. I made them
do several 2-digit, 3-digit and 4-digit multiplication problems.
Sudhir did most of them correctly. He is a quick learner and very
eager to learn. Azhar also did the questions correctly but he did more
calculation mistakes. They both need to learn the tables thoroughly
because often they were turning the pages to look at them while doing
the problems but concept-wise both are clear with multiplication.

• [Shakeb]:

[Dhananjaya]: I taught few words from letter A to Z. He did few
mistakes which I corrected.
[LEVEL 3]

• [Ramya RJ]:
[Prateeksha, Nikita Kamble, Shweta, Nikita Thosar and Muskaan]: I
started off with giving Prateeksha a few sums on multiplication. She
got them right. Then I asked all of them to write a few sentences
about Prarambh. I encouraged them to think in English. We did ten such
sentences. I corrected the sentences and gave them the right spelling
for a few words. Prateeksha was very good. She wrote extra sentences
also. Nikita Kamble and Shweta did fairly well but for a few spelling
mistakes. We need to work more with Nikita Thosar and Muskaan. They
had trouble with spellings for even words like ‘on’, ‘at’, ‘in’, etc.
[LEVEL 4]

• [Ashish]:
[Rahul]: He is not regular so instead of continuing with some random
topic I preferred to take one topic in the session and complete it. I
taught the him series in mathematics (geometric, series involving
fractions).
• [Payoshni]:

[Aishwarya, Anita, Rahil, Shubham and Deeksha]: I taught Aishwarya,
Anita, Rahil, Shubham and Deeksha .By the time I took over, Ankit had
already given them a simple Maths problem to solve, so I continued
with the same. I gave them problems which involved simple addition,
subtraction, multiplication etc but which also involved some bit of
thinking and logic. The problems were twisted and initially they were
a Little confused, but as I gave them more problems to do and taught
them the methodology to tackle these, they started enjoying it and did
most of it correctly too.
