Hi All,
Last weekend was full of fun and joy.
Below are the activities performed by different volunteers, last
weekend.

Saturday: Sept 12, 2009
[LEVEL 1]
• [Manisha]:
[Shraddha]: I taught Shraddha small letters from ‘g’ to ‘o’, which
were covered 2 weeks prior to this but she could not recollect some of
the letters even in sequence. She was getting confused between b & d,
m & n, e & f.

[LEVEL 2]
• [Manisha]:
[Muskaan]: I taught Muskaan sounds associated with all the vowels.
Also made her revise days of the week.
• [Nibhatish]:
[Sudhir]: We did some multiplication problems. First we started with 3
digit problems and then I gave him 4 digit multiplication problems. He
knew the method but was doing silly mistakes. After that, we switched
to English and we revised simple words with sounds of a, e, I and o.
[Mangesh]: We did some subtraction problems. He wasn’t able to solve
correctly problems with borrow. So I explained him method to solve
those problems. In the end, he was able to do most of the problems
correctly but still needs more practice. After that, we switched to
English and we revised simple words with sounds of a, e, I and o.

[LEVEL 3]
• [Ramya]:
[Nikita Kamble, Ganesh and Azhar]: I took a test on the Alphabetical
order arrangement that was taught to them the previous weekend. Then I
taught them Modes of Transport. I made them think of all the vehicles
they have seen or heard of. I also made them guess their spellings,
according to the syllable sounds. They wrote everything down and then
I asked them to learn the spellings. Nikita and Ganesh were good.
Azhar had trouble, or maybe he didn’t really put in the effort to
learn.
[LEVEL 4]
• [Kranti]:
[Rahil]: Since Rahil was in no mood to learn, we talked about the
different states and their capitals. I also asked him about other
countries, their location and their capitals.

Sunday: Sept 13, 2009
[LEVEL 1]
• [Nibhatish]:
[Shraddha]: I taught her English. We revised all small letters a-z.
Then she wanted to do some drawings, so I let her did that and then I
hide some of letters and asked her to identify it and find it. After
that, I asked her to hide remaining letters and I tried to found out
all those. We repeated this for 3-4 drawing eventually covering most
of the letters couple of times.

[LEVEL 2]
• [Nibhatish]:
[Sonali]: I taught her English. We revised sounds of vowels with
simple words. I wrote down pronunciations in her book and asked her to
spell those words. Once it was done, I wrote down spellings and asked
her to write pronunciations. She still needs lot of improvement.
• [Dev]:
[Mangesh Shinde]: I taught Mangesh on sounds of ‘a’, ‘I’ and ‘e’.
Also, given him words to remember, on animals, colours and told him to
remember them next time.

[LEVEL 3]
• [Manisha]:
[Nikita]: I taught Nikita modes of transport and made her revise days
of the week, months of year, fruit and vegetable names. We also did
some puzzles from the puzzle book brought by another volunteer.
• [Ramya]:
[Sangeeta, Mamta, Sumitra and Madhuri]: I made them take up a writing
exercise from Prarambh course book (Level- III) – Self Intro
Information Dialogues. We went practical on it. I made them understand
the situations where they would need to introduce their selves. They
understood the questions on the workbook and they replied suitably in
full sentences. Then I asked random questions to them, to which they
answered well. Finally I made them write a paragraph, going about
introducing themselves. All the kids did well in this exercise. Mamta
wanted to take a spell test on some random known/unknown words. So I
gave her that. She did fairly well, guessing the spellings
phonetically.
• [Prakhar]:
[Muskaan]: I taught her spelling of months in a year orally and in
written. She did few mistakes in spellings (February, August and
September). I told her to revise all the words and learn the above
three words.
• [Ati]:
[Shweta]: I taught her Math’s. She wanted to learn ‘How to calculate
HCF?’ But when I asked her if she knows how to calculate factors of
any numbers, she was not clear. She didn’t even know how to do
division. So I took her revision of multiplication of 2 digit and 3
digit numbers, which she was able to do. Then I taught her concept of
division and gave her questions to calculate division of 2digit nos.
and then of 3 digit nos. as well. Based on those examples solved by
her I explained her what are factors and how to calculate HCF and why
we do so. Also gave her some assignment related to calculation of HCF
of 2 numbers.
• [Ankit]:
[Ganesh and Azhar]: I first took a test on modes of transport which
was taught on Saturday. Ganesh remembered all of them while Azhar was
not able to recall spellings of few. So I asked him to learn it by
heart and later took an oral test. I taught Gender (Masculine and
feminine) to Ganesh which he learnt quickly.

[LEVEL 4]
• [Kranti]:
[Rahil, Anita, Deeksha and Pooja]: Since the kids had brought their
text books to class, I gave them an exercise from their text book.
There was a list of 25 pairs of opposites. They memorized them for 5
minutes. I then closed the book and asked them to jot down whatever
they could remember. All the kids performed well. I also told them to
write the past tense of the verbs and then form sentences for each
verb. Later all of them read out a poem each from their textbook.
