Hi All,
Last weekend was full of fun and joy.
Below are the activities performed by different volunteers, last
weekend.
Saturday: Sept 19, 2009
[LEVEL 2]
• [Ankit]:
[Mangesh Kanse and Mangesh Chorge]: I first took a test of sounds as a
part of revision. Mangesh.C got most of it right and was clear of the
sounds. So, I asked him to write tables from 5 till 11. Mangesh.K had
big problem with sounds especially with letter ‘a’ and ‘e’. He is
unable to speak the words and get stuck in saying bat etc as ‘baaaa’.
He needs one to one attention. Later I checked the tables which
Mangesh.C has written; to my surprise this naughty kid got all right.
He is bright only problem is that he is bit volatile
• [Chacika]:
[Mangesh Chorge]: I asked Mangesh to recite tables randomly between 2
to 12. He recited them correctly. Also, I asked him any value like
7X4, 12X9 etc. in which he was ok but needs more practice. After that
I wrote the table of 13 for him and asked him to learn it.
[LEVEL 4]
• [Manisha]:
[Diksha & Pooja]: I taught them opposites and made them learn the
meanings as well.
• [Kranti]:
[Anita]: I revised countries and their capitals with Anita. She knew
most of the capitals. I also taught her the name of Continents.
Sunday: Sept 20, 2009
[LEVEL 2]
• [Ankit]:
[Mangesh Kanse]: Continuing with sounds, I taught Magesh.K sounds of
‘a’ and ‘e’, He again had problems with it. Just to change the topic
as he was getting bored, I asked him to write tables from 5 till he
knows. It was shocking to know that he even don’t know the table of 2.
I taught him the concept of multiplication/tables as 2*2=2+2 which is
grasped quickly and wrote table of 3 himself.
[Mangesh Chorge]: I gave Mangesh, few two digit multiplication
problems; He did few mistakes which I corrected by explaining him the
concept.
• [Dev]:
[Azar, Rahul, Atul]: We read an English story about good and bad
demon.
• [Prakhar]:
[Muskaan]: I taught her spelling of animals (8 words) orally and in
written. She also learnt 8 words from body parts. I taught her
spellings of body parts both orally and in written.
[LEVEL 3]
• [Kranti]:
[Sumitra, Prateeksha, Shweta]: All of them wrote down the names of the
months. They were still confused with sounds. So I read out names
which they wrote down. They thoroughly enjoyed this exercise and
learnt the sounds too. Later we closed the session with their favorite
game “Name, place, Animal, Thing.
• [Manisha]:
[Nikita Kamble]: I took a test for fruit, vegetable names and modes of
transport which was covered in the previous week. She did well in
that. Next we covered Introduction/self description.
• [Chacika]:
[Shweta, Prateeksha]: I made them write few lines of Swami Vivekanand
– “ All power is within you. You can do anything and everything.
Believe in yourself. Believing in yourself is the first step. I taught
them the meaning of these lines and its significance in our life.
[Kavita]: I gave her few problems on multiplication of type 4X3 (abcd
* xyz).
[LEVEL 4]
• [Manisha]:
[Diksha, Pooja, Aishwarya, Rahil and Ganesh]: I taught them opposites
along with their meanings and asked them to memorize the same. I took
a written test as well as a verbal one and made them understand the
meanings properly. Rahil, Ganesh and Aishwarya need more practice on
this. I covered masculine and Feminine gender, past tense of verbs and
rhyming words with Pooja alone.
