Hi All,
After two weekends, Prarambh classes finally resumed on last Saturday.
As expected the strength of kids were low on Saturday but Sundays’
class was house full.
Saturday class started by asking the kids on their well being and what
they did in last two weeks? It was good to see all the kids in good
health.
Below are the activities performed by different volunteers, last
weekend.
Saturday: Aug 29, 2009
[LEVEL 1]
• [Manisha]:
[Ganesh]: I made Ganesh revise small and capital alphabets; he was
getting confused between similar sounding alphabets.
[LEVEL 2]
• [Aparna]:
[Nikita Thosar and Muskaan]: I taught Nikita and Muskaan, sounds of A,
E, I, O, U. It was kind of revision of the earlier classes.
• [Ashish]:
[Mangesh]: Revised with him sounds of vowels A, E, I, O, U and a list
of words containing these sounds.
• [Ankit]:
[Deepa]: I taught her sound of vowel ‘A’ by using the material for
level2. She had problems in recognizing the sound earlier but as I
explained she was able to write all the words from the book containing
letter ‘A’.
[LEVEL 3]
• [Ramya]:
[Nikita Kamble]: I taught her Parts of Body and Vegetables from the
Prarambh course material. She grasped everything quickly. Finally I
took a test on her understanding. She is very good at it.
[Sangeeta, Mamta and Sumitra]: I made them take up a writing exercise
from Prarambh course book. They had to write the names of the animals
against their pictures. Though they knew some names, they weren’t
confident in writing the same. I encouraged them in guessing the
spelling, splitting them phonetically. After they had somehow arrived
at the spellings by trial and error, I made them learn it and I took a
test on the same. Mamta did a good job. Sumitra took her time, but did
well too. Sangeeta had trouble with sounds of alphabets. So I spent
time with her alone and taught her sounds. She understands consonants
sounds without any point of doubt, but with vowels, she is still not
at ease.
Sunday: Aug 30, 2009
[LEVEL 1]
• [Ankit]:
[Supriya]: As she does not know abcd orally, I taught her to speak
abcd till ‘L’. This girl is the shiest of all kids whom I have taught
till date. It takes ages for a single letter to come out of her mouth.
• [Manisha]:
[Shraddha]: I taught Shraddha small letters from g – o and made her
revise capital letters A – Z.
[LEVEL 2]
• [Dev]:
[Azhar, Mangesh Kanse, Dhananjaya and Mangesh Chorge]: We practiced/
wrote few sentences on self. Also did some basic math’s problems.
• [Aparna]:
[Nikita Thosar and Muskaan]: I taught Nikita and Muskaan, spellings of
days of the week and months.
[LEVEL 3]
• [Prakhar]:
[Yasser and Ganesh]: I taught them spelling and picture identification
of the animals. I gave them spelling of animal names to write on his
notebook after identifying the pictures. There were 8 words in that
sheet. He has learnt all 8 words, both orally and written.
• [Ankita]:
[Sangeeta, Mamta and Sumitra]: I asked them the body part names first
and then made them write it down one by one. They didn’t know the
names of some and spellings of others so helped them with that. After
that I asked them to write the names of the vegetables they know. They
wrote quite a few after which I asked them to remember all the
vegetables they see in the market or the one that’s their favourite or
the ones their mother cooks the best. This way we had a long list of
vegetable names. I asked them to keep an eye on the vegetables next
time to go the market and see what names they don’t know and come and
ask me next time. After that I helped them with the names and
spellings of some fruits.
• [Manisha]:
[Nikita Kamble]: I taught Nikita days of the week, months of the year,
parts of body and fruit names.
[LEVEL 4]
• [Ankit]:
[Aishwarya, Rahil, Pooja, Kajal and Deeksha]: I taught them modes of
transport by asking them to write different vehicle names, they see
daily. After some time, Kranti took over the charge.
• [Kranti]:
[Aishwarya, Rahil, Pooja, Kajal and Deeksha]: The kids had written
down the “Modes of Transport”. I checked the spellings and corrected
them. I also asked them to make sentences using the prepositions “in”
and “on” using the modes of Transport. Later, we played “Name, place,
Animal, Thing”
