I'm thinking maybe a little bit along the lines of a online/offline
web-based application framework with persistant data storage based on
SQL, user presentation based on XML, and user control based on remote
scripting. I'm looking at Java for most of the programming logic
because Java has such a high hype value, and seems like it's pretty
ubiquitous. People who prefer other languages like Javascript could
still use them from inside of Java, for instance, with Rhino.

It would be pretty interesting if anybody had good reasons why C or C++
would be better than Java, but I'm already leaning pretty hard toward
the language of Beans, Servlets, JSPs, and many existing web
application tools (especially for XML and such) like from the Jakarta
project.

The proof-of-concept of the application framework could be a software
product that assists home inspectors in Texas or something.

I am all about using Java, as it can be used on Palm devices,
UNIX/LINUX workstations (like mine), on Windows, and on Mac with few
porting concerns. C++ would make for a faster app, but with good
optimization, Java could suit our needs really well

The purpose of the PTL project:

1. Build the main PTL program on top of a set of other computer
programs.

2. Assist programmers to build fast, secure, and easy computer programs
in Java with DHTML and SQL.

3. Automate the distribution, installation, and setup of the programs
built with PTL.
