Hi Rachel,
Would you be interested in the off the hook challenge? Last year a number of us turned of our own phones all week and shared just one phone. we took turn being the one person who had the phone. We made the pink house studio out our center and had all the contact info of each person there that was "off the hook" We took messages and put them in their actual Social networking wall pocket and if there had been an "emergency " we would have sent someone to leave a note at their home. The main thing this project needs is for someone to make a large Calender of the week for people to sign up for shifts. last year i think we had 4 hour shifts all week. we also need a phone Number to give out. Last year we used Kates, would you be interested again Kate? If we get it together it really is fun and makes the "camp" feeling of Power down week really fun.

Sarah

Hi Natalie,
Thanks for the additional info. I am not sure that I would be a good fit to lead any of those projects. I think I'd probably be best at either helping out where additional labor/hands are needed, or a more organizing-of-information type of task like coordinating volunteer shifts or something like that. I'm sorry, I am just not that creative generally! But I am looking forward to participating somehow since I didn't make it last year.

Thank you for offering to help out! We need people to do all sorts of projects. What would interest you?

Are you looking to get involved with planning? We need people to plan events, help outreach to businesses, other things that I can't think of right now. I made the attached document a while back, but it outlines different projects that we would like to come to fruition (with the right effort). However, feel free to create your own project too if you'd like to be creative.

If you'd like to help during the event, we can find a place for you there too.

Let me know what you are thinking :)

I had a WONDERFUL time on my trip. It was such a beautiful place, and I really enjoyed hanging out with my sister. Too short as always.

Hi Natalie,
I don't have any ideas for a specific workshop but I am happy to get involved; let me know how I can help out.
Did you have a good trip?

Hello!

Planning for Power Down Week 2011 is in full swing!

I am writing to you because you were either in some way involved in either Power Down Week 2010 or have somehow indicated that you might have a skill or activity that you would like to share with the community in Milwaukee. Would you be willing to plan / offer an activity during power down week? We will have some locations available and try to coordinate as best as we can. However, this week is about grassroots activities and we would love for you to be inspired to be involved.

The dates of the event are Saturday June 25th Sunday July 3rd. During the week we are planning multiple activities including reskilling, block parties, get togethers, etc. If you haven't been involved before it is a week where we each ask ourselves how much energy do I really need? We challenge ourselves to power down for the week and use as little energy as possible. The greatest part of it is the community building that results!

This is the second year for Power Down. We are going to try and recreate the amazing atmosphere that existed last year in Riverwest and expand it to other parts of the city. Bayview is interested in creating a hub, and other areas can too. Plan something in your neighborhood!

Also, this year we are opening up the possibility to charge for the workshops or activities. We encourage you to offer your activity for free, but understand that both your time and materials are valuable.

Please email me if you are interested in offering a reskilling workshop or coordinating an activity.

I will need:

  • Time
  • Date
  • Location
  • Activity
  • Capacity of Participants
  • Materials needed (if applicable)
  • Cost (if applicable)

If you are not sure what activity you might offer, but want to get involved please let me know!

Thank you for your involvement!

Kind regards,

Natalie
