If I have my MX records set to Postini, and the Postini servers listed
in the Google Apps inbound mail gateway box, will Google Apps still
filter spam? Also, is there a test address similar to
us...@domain.com.test-google-a.com that will route through Postini? I
would like to test the spam filtering before actually changing my MX
records.

Policy Management and Message Recovery by Postini is a separate
service from Google Apps email. Both services include spam and virus
filtering.

A summary of the interaction in filtering between the two services
follows:
Incoming mail is filtered by both services. This provides a double
later of protection.
These services are separate - changes to one filter do not affect the
other.
Policy Management filters email messages first.
Messages that pass through Policy Management filters are archived in
Message Recovery, even if they are later quarantined in Google Apps
email.
Approved IP Addresses in Google Apps mail do not apply.

You will not be using the Inbound mail gateway with Postini & Apps,

What about the email white list field. If I put the Postini servers
there, will that bypass the GA spam filter? Would they be the same
servers that my MX records will point to?

What are you trying to accomplish? Gmail is part of Google Apps, so
what is your concern?

I am trying to avoid training users to check for spam in a second
spot. We use POP/Outlook in house and having the Postini digest
delivered to users each day will be great. I do not however, want
users to need to login to Google apps to check their spam folder on a
regular basis. If adding the Postini servers to the whitelist in the
domain control panel of google apps will prevent this, then I will be
thrilled. If there is no way to stop the 'double filtration' of
emails, then I will probably have to find another solution.

As I outlined earlier both services filter, but since Postini is a
advanced filter, chances for some spam getting to Gmail would be low,
if not at all. I would suggest using IMAP and then you could see if
any messages filtered through and passed Postini. Are you using Google
Apps for any particular reason, or is it just for Postini?

I have a similar problem in that if my users look at their message
centre - find a message that has been inaccurately marked as SPAM and
they choose to deliver it - it goes into the Google SPAM folder -
meaning they have to check twice.

There must surely be a way around this?

How can customers submit falsely quarantined messages?

Resolution

Make 100% sure that all messages submitted in this way are simply
falsely quarantined and not quarantined based on user/organization
configuration before submitting.

There are two methods for submitting these examples to Postini:

1) Send falsely quarantined messages as attachments to an e-mail to
notspam-at-postini.com.

2) Use the Submit for Analysis button. (Only available within Message
Center and NOT Classic Message Center)

This button can be reached by clicking on the "Why Was This Message
Quarantined?" link that is visible when viewing a message in Message
Center ( NOT Classic). First, our system will provide a quick analysis
as to why we quarantined the message, and then you have the option to
submit the message directly to Postini's engineering team.

Additional Information

Messages sent to notspam-at-postini.com are collected for evaluation.
Postini collects them to get a large representative sample of the spam
messages which are quarantined when they shouldn't be. Postini
development staff evaluates them and uses them to make adjustments to
the filtering engine. You should not expect feedback from Postini
regarding the submission.

If the non-spam messages are not sent as attachments, they will be
discarded since they will not contain all necessary information, such
as Internet mail header information.

WWe have the same problems in our organization. It is really not
useful because users have to check spams twice!! If I unmarked a
message as non spam in Postini, Gmail marked it as spam.

Please help with this issue.
