Dear Poplar Heights Neighbors,
Hello neighbors. My name is Rebecca Vecchione and I have lived on Buckelew Drive in the Poplar Heights neighborhood for 23 years. At the request of Supervisor Palchik’s office, I have volunteered to periodically share information about Fairfax Water’s new water tower proposal on Tower Street.
The basic facts:
· The present tower was built in 1952 by the city of Falls Church.
· Fairfax Water acquired responsibility for the tower when it integrated Falls Church City water into its system.
· The new water tower is to be built because the old one is 70 years old and only 40% of its volume is utilized without system pressure issues.
· The new tower will be similar in height to the existing tower but larger in diameter to hold an increased volume of water.
· Fairfax Water has acquired additional property near the existing Poplar Heights tower to accommodate the construction of the new tower.
The application for a new water tower includes a Special Exception (SE) and 2232 applications that will require public hearings before the planning commission and Board of Supervisors. Those applications have yet to be submitted. Additionally, Fairfax Water plans to schedule a community outreach meeting sometime in the late June/July timeframe. Additional updates will be posted to their web page as they become available, and I’ll post to NEXTDOOR once I’m alerted to the actual meeting date. The website address: https://www.fairfaxwater.org/poplar-heights-tank-replacement.
I urge you to check out the website as it contains more in-depth information about the proposed water tower. If you have question or concerns, you may contact Fairfax Water’s Dominic Brancaccio at 703.289.6367 or Robert Cotten at 703.289.6310. The contact for Supervisor Palchik’s office is Michael Wing at 703.698.4822 or Michae...@fairfaxcounty.gov .
