HYDE PARK — A town man is being held at Dutchess County Jail without
bail after he allegedly stabbed another man in the shoulder during a
fight.

Hyde Park police charged Howard Hill, 35, with first-degree assault, a
felony, the department said.

Police responded a report of a large fight in progress on Violet
Avenue Friday at 12:03 a.m. Arriving officers found several people
fighting and one man seriously injured from a stab wound, the
department said.

“There was an apparent altercation between several men. During the
altercation, a Hyde Park man was stabbed in the left shoulder
requiring surgery at Saint Francis Hospital,” town police said in a
written release.

The injury was serious but not life-threatening, police said.

Town police and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office found Hill trying
to leave the area in a vehicle.

He was arraigned in town court Friday and sent to Dutchess County
Jail. He is due to return to court at Wednesday at 6 p.m
