Youth for Human Rights International Poet Laureate Lawrence Jaffe

Seattle, WA – Lawrence Jaffe, Poet Laureate for Youth for Human Rights International, will be reading at a special Youth for Human Rights event in Seattle on Sunday, December 15, 2007. International Human Rights Day is December 10th of each year and celebrates the landmark signing by every major nation of this groundbreaking document in 1948. The purpose of Youth for Human Rights International is to educate people in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights so they become valuable advocates for tolerance and peace. As its Poet Laureate, Mr. Jaffe tours throughout the world to help enlighten everyone on these vital rights.
Reading with Mr. Jaffe, will be Mr. Paul Nelson President of the Washington Poets Association, along with several other distinguished Seattle poets. An essential part of the event will be The Declaration of Human Rights Experience. This is a live dramatic reading performed by both the poets and the audience.
Mary Shuttleworth, President of Youth for Human Rights said the following regarding Jaffe’s work: “For his entire professional career Lawrence Jaffe has been using his art to promote human rights. He is a distinguished poet who prides himself on his community involvement and care.”
Jaffe was recently awarded the coveted Lifetime of Creativity Award at the 2007 Saint Hill Arts Festival. Executive producer Sheila Gaiman presented the award "Each year an artist is chosen who uses their art to help their town, country, or the world. Larry is the first artist selected to be working for the safety of the entire planet and we very much want to encourage this and are very proud of his work.”
