I replaced my 40gb hard drive with a 160gb I bought off of ebay for
about $40Cdn.
You just need a standard laptop hard drive. The book that comes with
the PS3 explains how to change your hard drive. You can even watch a
demonstration on youtube. Takes no more than half an hour to change
and only requires some basic computer skills.

Cheers.

You have 2 options....

1) Buy an external USB drive...and connect it to PS3 - which ic solution mainly for Movies, Pictures etc.
2) Buy 2,5" SATA drive - no matter what capacity (I have new 500GB from WD) backup the PS3 stuff and change it..

cheers

Where does the external USB drive show up in the menu screen?

Hi there,

There are two things to mention here.

1) The Harddrive has to be formatted as FAT32. It cannot be NTFS.
Google how to format a harddrive as FAT32. There is a free program
which does it in a flash!

2) The harddrive HAS to have three folders in it named EXACTLY; VIDEO,
PICTURE, MUSIC.

Sony will not accept anything less! AND you can only have one other
folder insider those folders before the files wont be read.

So for example, your harddrive could look like;

HARDDRIVE -> VIDEO
- Horror Movies
- Love Movies
PICTURE
- Family
- Friends
MUSIC
- Hiphop
- Rock
- Classic
- Pop

But if you tried to put more folders inside those subfolders they
would stop being read by the playstation.

I hope this helps,

If you have questions, post here :):):

If you have it properly formatted (FAT32) and you have the proper folders (VIDEO, PHOTOS, MUSIC) on it, than it will be always under the each section as USB device.

Should have bought the 160GB first before lots of games and a lot of
things for your PS3 like me!
