This wet, warm summer is accelerating growth in the gardens. Expect to make regular, even daily, visits to keep up with harvesting, weeding and now Japanese beetles.
These small, copper-colored beetles love to chew on bean and rhubarb foliage, but will sometimes attack other leaves also. Physical removal -- brushing them into a container of soapy water, for example -- is the only way to get rid of them.
