Hi All,
We have our first scheduled work day this upcoming Saturday from 10AM until you get tired. We will work on the following:
1) Aisle Pathways - pull weeds and spread wood chips if needed. Not all pathways will need woodchips, but some weed pulling would do some good.
2) repair the three-compartment compost bin. The center bin has some breakage. Would someone take on repairing that?
3) Tilling / Turning in manure. We've been delivered a second batch of composted manure. If you already have put some on your plot, please wait until those that haven't get a chance to. You can either top-coat your plot or turn in the compost.
4) rake-up perimeter of the compost pile to keep the grass living.
5) combine the contents of the outer two compost bins into the center bin, once it is fixed.
6) If a dump-trailer is found, we'll be loading all of the loose, non-soil debris from the three-sided fenced debris pile into it to be hauled away for composting at an off-site location. We will pay a fee for the hauling service, but will save loads of money if we do the loading ourselves.
- Please work to keep the soil-like matter in place. Use the compost screen in the shed, if needed, so we can re-use that soil in our plots. Many of our plots are becoming soil depleted because gardeners are pulling weeds and plants and not knocking off the soil before depositing it in the pile. You'll note that pile has a very high soil content under all the dried out stems from last year. We need to get that stuff back into our gardens.
Thanks!
============= PLANT A ROW FOR THE HUNGRY =============
May 5, 2013
Dear Community Gardeners,
By now you have begun to till your plot, choose the seeds, and plant these into the ground. As you start these gardening activities we invite you to participate in a new local volunteer organization that connects growers of nutritious food with those who have limited access to this produce. We are the Plattsburgh chapter of Plant a Row for the Hungry (PAR) with the broad mission to provide fresh produce to underserved populations in the local community.
If you want to participate all you have to do now is to plant a few extra rows in your garden plot and plan to donate some portion of your produce during the harvest.
Later, the Plattsburgh PAR volunteers will pick up from the Community Garden several times a week and distribute this produce to our agency partners (Interfaith Food Shelf, JECO, local free meal programs, and the Senior Center).
Keep track of pick up days, destination drop-off days and times, and total number of pounds donated by Plattsburgh PAR growers, by logging onto the Community Garden website and following the link to Plant a Row for the Hungry, Plattsburgh Chapter:

· Do you want row markers to tell the public you are growing for Plattsburgh PAR?
· Volunteers Needed! Put your name on a list of volunteers who are willing to transport produce, or to receive and record donations at agency sites on specific days and times.

Thank you. Happy Growing!
