News media can get a first look at the solar-powered rover, which can accommodate a drill that can bore one meter into the lunar soil. Reporters also can speak with William “Red” Whittaker, CEO of Astrobotic and director of Carnegie Mellon’s Field Robotics Center, and other members of the team. Astrobotic, a CMU spinoff that develops robotics technology for planetary missions, has partnered with the university on the mission.

When: 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 8

Where: Planetary Robotics Lab, first floor highbay, Gates and Hillman centers on Carnegie Mellon’s campus. Parking is available outside the highbay garage doors, or next door in the Gates Center parking garage. To reach the Gates Center, take Frew Street to the campus road called Roberts Drive; keep left on the drive to follow it down the hill; at the base of the hill, the Gates Center will be the black and silver building directly ahead.
