Nearly 56 years have passed since the establishment of UNHCR, the UN
Refugee Agency. Over 12 million refugees and displaced persons
languish in 700 refugee camps worldwide. Today, June 20, 2007, is
internationally recognized as World Refugee Day--a day when we
remember the unlived lives of those unable to return home.
In honor of this, the Pittsburgh Refugee Center, in collaboration with
the Pittsburgh Filmmakers, is pleased to present the documentary film,
"Rain in a Dry Land," by Anne Makepeace. The film depicts the lives
of two Somali Bantu families that have been resettled in the United
States. The documentary portrays the struggles, hopes and challenges
that refugees encounter as they make America their new home.
Please join us Thursday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Melwood Screening
