to Pitts Model 12
Not a hugely exciting video, but just posted here for the info of those building a Model 12.
I have to say the stall characteristics of this plane are pretty pilot-friendly and much more docile than some planes I've flown! Everything is very easily controllable and recovery is very fast.
In this video I deliberately hold the Model 12 in the stall with full backstick. Some aileron control is available although it can want to drop a wing depending on the amount of aileron used (no surprise there - I'd be more surprised if it didn't). At no point is it violent and yaw divergence is easily limited with rudder input. I don't have a VSI and although I was counting down the altitude loss, my new iPhone-intercom audio cable failed to record properly (need to investigate that). However it wasn't a particularly big rate of descent at all.
Really this just gives confidence that, if built and rigged properly (the big disclaimer!), the Model 12 stalling qualities are very conventional and predictable.
