Enjoy the racing opportunities and dress appropriately :) Mark Elmore, the Snowshoe Guy, sent me the press releases from the US/World Snowshoe championships held a few weeks ago. Jamie also posts updates on the Dion WMAC Snowshoe Series FB page, so that’s a good place to check for last minute changes/news. This year may also see “Pop Up” races, which by nature means that there is very little notice. With the obvious challenges of our winter climate, we just have to take advantage of snow when it comes. So check the FB page when the snow flies, to see if there’s a Pop Up in your future

2/21/26 The Paul Smith's College Striders will host the Bobcat 5 and 10K snowshoe races as well as a Childrens’s .8 K Cross Country
In conjunction with the 5and 10K events, the Striders will coordinate a .8K (1/2 mile) snowshoe race for children age 14 and under. This will enable families to participate in the Bobcat Snowshoe Race together. It should be noted that the children’s course as well as the 5K and 10K courses are “in the woods,” and it might be beneficial to have an adult accompany them along the route.

2/28/26 Frigus Snowshoe Festival. We’re excited to announce FRIGUS, a winter trail race coming to Moreau Lake State Park in Gansevoort, New York on February 28, 2026.

This year we’re offering two challenging and scenic distances:
4.7 miles with approximately 750 feet of climbing
15K with approximately 2,300 feet of climbing
We’ll also host a 1-mile kids race, making FRIGUS a great event for the whole family.
Thanks to an outstanding winter so far — including a recent 20-inch snowfall — the forest and trails are beautifully snow-covered. To top it off, Moreau Lake is frozen, and racers will experience a truly unforgettable finish by running across the lake to the finish line.
DION snowshoes will be on site with rentals. We'll have warm food at the finish, music, and a fire on the beach.
