~ IN MEMORY ~

Military veteran, DL Capt. Carter Stanley Chapman Jr.

September 18, 1947 ~ March 10, 2025

From boating friends and aviation colleagues, we have learned of the passing of retired Delta Air Lines pilot Captain Carter Chapman, age 77.  Carter joined Delta Air Lines 09-05-1978 and was based Atlanta.

From Carter’s boating friends : https://www.clubsearay.com/threads/in-memoriam-carter-chapman.121329/  Carter passed away unexpectedly at his Florida home on March 10 following complications from recent back surgery. Honoring his wishes there will be no memorial service.

My wife and I were fortunate to spend time over the years with Carter and Susan. Many afternoons and evenings sitting on one of our boats in a marina along the west coast of Florida. Hearing of Carter’s endless stories and adventures. Days and evenings we will dearly miss.

Right behind flying, Carter loved boating. He was an avid poster on Club Sea Ray and was always ready to help someone out as they tackled a problem. Always inquisitive, wanting to understand your challenge and help in any way he could.

Carter will be missed by this community and by all of us who knew him or exchanged postings on CSR.

From Carter's wife and First Mate, Susan:

"I am reading your replies and am so appreciative. Carter used to share some of you posts with me so I feel like I know some of you and your boats as well. He always took great pleasure and pride in his contributions to the CSR forum so it seems to be a mutual admiration society. I am completely heartbroken by his passing. He was my hero and one of a kind. Carter will always be the Captain of my heart."

As with others I was just thinking about reaching out to see how he was doing.

I had the great pleasure of working closely with Carter at our airline. He was one of the smartest guys I have ever met and a great friend to many. Prayers to his family, we have lost of the greatest in aviation and in boating.
