I recently switched over to Mac after long having the desire to. There
is a learning curve involved, but not terribly so difficult as one
would imagine.

I do have one query. I realize that I was very used to doing simple
editing in Paint, in Windows, and I note that there is no comparable
program in Mac that allows me to do the same. I especially speak to
the feature of Eraser, which allows you to delete whatever was in the
photo to just the plain white, like it was before.

I have tried Picasa, with the retouching feature, and had a little
success with it, enough for me to do what I needed to do, but the
whole experience has me wondering if there isn't something that would
allow me to use that feature, as I did in Paint?

I look forward to hearing any suggestions from you all, thanks.

Hi, you could use GIMP, it is free.
Gimp runs on mac, windows and linux.
Here is the link http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/
This is the free alternative to Adobe Photoshop.
Drop me a line after you test it.
