NATIONAL-LOUIS UNIVERSITY

Reading and Language Department

Starting Date:  September 2010

 

The faculty of the Reading and Language Department of National College of Education of National-Louis University invites applicants for a senior level position as a member of the graduate faculty and a leader in grants and school-based projects in urban and metropolitan school districts. National College of Education is one of the largest colleges of education in the country with dynamic programs serving diverse learners. NCE is NCATE-accredited. The NCE faculty are dynamic, dedicated, talented and collaborative.

 

National-Louis University is a multi-purpose, not-for-profit university that annually serves more than 13,000 students.  Founded in 1886 and dedicated to a progressive philosophy of education and social justice, the University also includes colleges of arts and sciences, and management and business. National-Louis University has five Chicago area campuses in downtown Chicago, North Shore (Skokie), Lisle, Wheeling and Elgin; sites in Florida, Wisconsin, and Nowy Sacz, Poland. The College has six strategic themes: Academic Excellence, Partnerships, Assessment, Technology, Diversity and Improved Processes.

 

The department of Reading and Language includes graduate programs in Reading, Language and Literacy and a doctoral program in Reading and Language. It also provides pre-service courses for the undergraduate and MAT programs. There are 16 faculty members in the department. 

 

Qualifications: Applicants should have an earned doctorate and a national reputation with a strong record of scholarship in reading and language, particularly addressing intermediate and upper grade literacy. Experience in writing and directing grants, as well as implementing medium to large scale professional development efforts in settings with multicultural populations is required. Both elementary/secondary level and university graduate level teaching experiences are expected.

 

As part of the college-wide commitment to prepare leaders for the challenging and critical educational needs of our society, we are seeking a colleague with student-centered learning experiences, experience using technology to enhance student learning, knowledge of standards-based assessment, a record of active scholarship and research, active commitment to diversity, and a commitment to active involvement in partner schools.
