to A Month in the Life of a Seminarian
Greetings from the pressure cooker. Melissa and I are working furiously
to finish the work that's due in the next couple of weeks when the
semester ends. I tell ya, I am thoroughly amazed by some of my fellow
students whose eyes sparkle when you talk to them about digging into
the original languages of Scripture, Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic -I on
the other hand am not gifted in this area and have been dreading these
papers that are quickly coming due. This Advent is truly one of great
anticipation of our Lord's coming to this earth, especially since by
the time that he is here my school assignments will be finished. Woo
Hoo and Merry Christmas!

All else is well. I have been busy leading the Anglican fellowship at
seminary, as well as the youth ministry at our church and learning new
liturgical functions. Melissa and I have been training to take over the
position of master of ceremonies for the largest of our three Sunday
services, which includes a full choir, priest, deacon and sub-deacon
and a Eucharistic service that is higher than any other that I have
attended. However the training is going well and we are enjoying our
deepening enrichment into the traditions of the church.

On Thursday of this past week I had the opportunity to watch some
friends be confirmed by Bishop Donald Harvey, the retired Bishop of
Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador (which as you know is in Canada).
There was such a richness to this man built upon a lifetime of ministry
and a passion that has transcended the passing of time even though he
has performed the same ceremonies probably thousands of times. I wish
that I could paint into words the passion with which he presided over
the service for it has been imprinted into my mind and I hope, if it be
God's will, to imitate as a priest.

Blessings to you as we look forward to the coming of our Lord and
Savior,
Philip and Melissa Mayer
