Associated Pharmacies, Inc. (API), a buying cooperative for over 1,000
independent pharmacies, today announces that it is purchasing the
assets of the Pharmacy Group of New England (PGNE) on January 1,
2009.

Scottsboro, AL (PRWEB) December 1, 2008 -- Associated Pharmacies, Inc.
(API), a buying cooperative for over 1,000 independent pharmacies,
today announces that it is purchasing the assets of the Pharmacy Group
of New England (PGNE) on January 1, 2009.

Current PGNE vendor contracts will be assigned to API in January 2009,
and every member will be able to take advantage of API's exclusive
Cardinal contract for discounts on purchasing brand name prescription
drugs, generic brands, and over-the-counter drugs.

PGNE will serve as a consultant to API, handling API's member
communications and marketing, as well as increasing API's legislative
and lobbying power.

Jon Copeland, CEO of API commented, "In the coming weeks, we will be
communicating directly with the pharmacies of PGNE in a coordinated
effort to demonstrate and explain how the pharmacies can best take
advantage of this new opportunity, including the explanation of the
membership and ownership structure of our organization. We will
continue to work with PGNE in a consulting capacity to ensure
uninterrupted delivery of the benefits the PGNE members have come to
enjoy from this long term pharmacy partner."

PGNE and API have been working together for over twenty years, dating
back to their days as founding members of the Federation of Pharmacy
Networks (FPN). Their national recognition gives substantial buying
power and negotiation abilities to the thousands of independent
pharmacies they serve.

About Associated Pharmacies (API)
API (http://www.apirx.com) is a buying cooperative of over 1,000
independent pharmacies throughout the United States. By joining over
1,000 independent pharmacies together as a buying cooperative,
Associated Pharmacies is able to negotiate bulk pricing on behalf of
the independent pharmacy owner, allowing independent pharmacies to get
the same low bulk pricing that chain pharmacies and mass merchandisers
are able to negotiate. This allows independent pharmacies to compete
on price while generating a solid profit so they can stay in
business.
