Wichita, Kansas (October 23, 2008) –KeyCentrix, Inc., provider of the
RxKey Pharmacy Software System, and RMS, an industry-leading pharmacy
Point-of-Sale (POS) provider, have collaborated to develop a flexible
spending account (FSA) card processing solution. The new company,
flexTRAX Solutions, provides independent pharmacies with an
alternative to a traditional POS and enables pharmacies to continue
processing FSA cards after January 1, 2009 when a new IRS regulation
becomes effective. Pharmacies without a compliant POS system will be
unable to process FSA/HSA cards after the deadline.
The flexTRAX system is an IIAS compliant system that enables
pharmacies to continue accepting FSA cards and can replace most cash
registers. Pharmacies can use flexTRAX to ring up sales; verify which
items are FSA eligible; tender payments by FSA card, credit/debit
card, cash, or check; and print receipts for the sale. The flexTRAX
application runs on a Windows PC with minimal hardware and verifies
each item against the SIGIS Eligible Items List; therefore pharmacies
must register with SIGIS to use flexTRAX. This registration also
ensures that the pharmacy is placed on the SIGIS Merchant List, which
many health benefits administrators use to recommend merchants to
their employees.
FlexTRAX co-founders Brandon Shuey, President and CEO of KeyCentrix,
and Brad Jones, President and CEO of RMS, decided to combine their
resources in order to quickly meet an industry-wide need. “Earlier
this year, we discussed the implications of the new regulations on the
independent pharmacies,” said Shuey. “We knew the industry lacked an
alternative for the independents, some of whom cannot justify the
xpense of a POS. Without an alternative, the independent pharmacy
market was at risk of losing customers who could no longer use their
flexible spending account debit cards. The quickest way to develop and
deliver a solution to the independents before the deadline was to
develop a partnership with RMS, who brought the experience and
understanding of front-end pharmacy operations.”
