Dear Friends,

We have finally moved into our new home. It has turned out very nice,
except there have been some problems with the toilets (fixed) and
drainage, mainly in the shower. This is probably not fixable, since it
would involve opening up the foundations.

In the end Su decided to have aircon installed right away and it
turned out to be the right decision. Although the house is generally
well insulated, with temperatures at night in the high 20s and around
40 during the day it makes for very comfortable living. On sunny days
our solar system produces all the power we need, unless Su starts up
the oven.

Meanwhile, Su has started a big tree planting program. So far, she has
planted about 500 and there will be at least another 500 more. We have
bananas, mangoes, guava, coconut, pomelo, pomegranate and jackfruit.
There will also be other trees, like teak. While Su plants, I install
the irrigation system.

Here are the pictures since November:

As always, remember to click the first picture to enlarge it. To
display my comments (if you actually want to read them...) you have to
click the Info icon in the top right corner, which opens the Info box
on the right. You can move through the pictures with the arrow keys on
your keyboard.

Su's psoriasis got a lot better with the treatment she received in
Bangkok. She stopped going there since the virus outbreak, but is
still taking the medicine. A cyclist chasing dog caused me to fall off
my bike many weeks ago and I now have a sore shoulder that will not
get better. Doctor's treatment didn't work.

We hope this finds you well and please stay healthy!

Kind regards,
Peter & Su.

PS: last night we had a violent thunderstorm and discovered water
pouring in through the window frames on the side the wind was coming
from. The window man has our money, so I don't like our chances of him
fixing it. As we say around here: TiT - This is Thailand.

Hello Peter and Su

This seems to have been a very long project, beset with lots of unnecessary problems along the way, but at least you now have a very nice home. You must be so relieved!

We enjoyed the photos and while it all looks a bit barren at present, I'm sure Su will have it looking like a jungle before long ;) Are you having drought conditions at the moment or is that quite normal? You don't seem to have many neighbours in your vicinity, so do you have quite a lot of land around the house?

Jenny and I did enjoy meeting up with Inge and her lovely friend in Picton in February. Luckily it was a fine warm day so we were able to spend most of the time together in the great outdoors, and I'm sure you will have seen lots of Inge's photos that were taken that day. It was great to see her once again!

Love and hugs, Alison and Terry

Right on all three points. ;-)

Are you having drought conditions at the moment or is that quite normal? You don't seem to have many neighbours in your vicinity, so do you have quite a lot of land around the house?

Yes, the last two rainy seasons were too dry. In Bangkok they have the additional problem that they are pumping too much water out of the ground, so sea water is now invading the ground water. I have not been able to find out what our water table is doing, although the neighbour's well is dry. The same type of well a km down the road on the family's sugar cane field has enough water to irrigate the whole field, at a depth of about 5m. Our pump is 40m down. So we get a year's worth of rain in about 3 months. The cool and hot seasons are bone dry. We had a little rain on about 4 days in 6 months. That is normal. It should get progressively wetter from now on until October. What is not normal are the dry canals everywhere. Rice farmers here normally get 3 crops per year, but only those with deep bores now have access to water, so the others miss one turn.

Having some experience with what sort of neighbours Thai people often are, we both didn't want immediate neighbours. (Noise, dogs, rubbish, smoke, ...) The whole area is about 2 ha.

... I'm sure you will have seen lots of Inge's photos that were taken that day.

That will have to wait until we visit again, hopefully this summer, but I'm not too optimistic that travel restrictions will be lifted by then.

Hi again :)

Inge emailed the Picton photos to me, just five of them that included both Jenny and me. Would you like me to send them to you?

Cheers, Alison
