Dog Biscuit Mix in a Jar

1 1/2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
2/3 cup All-Purpose Flour
1 1/2 teaspoons Sugar
1 cup Powdered Milk
2/3 cup Quick Cooking Oats
1/3 cup Yellow Cornmeal
2 tablespoons Beef Bouillon Granules

Layer the ingredients in a one quart jar in the order listed, pressing each
layer firmly before adding the next. Place lid on the jar. If desired, place a
circle of fabric over the lid. Secure with a piece of thin ribbon or raffia.

Attach a card to the jar with the following directions:

To Prepare the dog biscuits -
Empty the mix into a bowl, and stir the ingredients together. Cut in 1/2 cup
vegetable shortening. Mix in l large, lightly beaten egg + 3/4 cup hot water.
Knead the dough for 5 minutes. Wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate for one half
hour. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough 1/2" thick and cut into dog
bone shapes. Place on a microwave-safe plate and microwave at 50% power for 5
minutes. Turn biscuits over and microwave at 50% power for 2 more minutes.
Repeat with remaining dough. Place biscuits on wire racks to cool and harden
for a few hours before storing in an airtight container.
