Really I like the idea, ya black is a bit of a low class look though. There are lots of public domain space images at Hubble space telescope sites.

Have you

It's magnificent. Exactly to my taste (i turned on pics in my IE6; kept them off).

Spoken like a true programmer. :-) Artist would have you hanged by the neck.

Give it a try, under Apache (all the same, sooner or later the project will be under Apache).
(with django web server I can't get CSS working properly)

Try to register. So far it goes like this: django check is such a username in db? If not,
new login automatically gets into community of members and his personal folder
is created in .../deksite/media/ for him.

By the way, we use PostgreSQL.

Try to upload files from your private room.

Maybe start Apache on some "secret" port, e.g. 8888? And we all would see and critisize
the stuff, and test it? I made a page for to see the python scripts.

In short,
folder deksite should be put into Apache's .../htdocs/

In its httpd.conf should be it:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

LoadModule python_module modules/mod_python.so
<Location />
  SetHandler mod_python
  PythonPath "['htdocs']+sys.path"
  PythonHandler django.core.handlers.modpython
  SetEnv DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE deksite.settings
  PythonDebug On
</Location>
<Location /deksite/static>
  SetHandler None
</Location>

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

project name = dek

admin = qwe
password = 123

Can you start sending me the emails through the  "traveller_movie" <Travell...@googlegroups.com> address? I want to keep everyone in the loop.

I will get to that apache stuff ASAP, I have been having very little free time this week!

Apache2 prefork MPM with mod-python using svn Django updated today.
Everything but django is up and working. The web page is coming from
it now. Check it. Should work fine, but slow because of a big
download.

So, I was just daydreaming in traffic, adn suddenly thought; "Hey, we're portraying these characters as if they're the heors.  But what if they aren't?"  So, thinking even further into the back story and to how they found out about the derelict I thought that perhaps some unsavory deeds may have been comitted.  I mean, if you knew where one of the greatest treasures of all time was, what would you do to protect it, or to learn about it?

We all talked once about the PCs ship being a shuttle that belonged to the derelict.  I think that'd make it too old and untenable.  I can imagine a shuttle sitting in a bay with the doors blown or open having its' umbilicals and locks deteriorated over time, finally failing, and the shuttle drifting out of the bay (especially if the derelict has a slow spin to it).  Coasting for a decade or two, it's discovered and picked up by someone deeper in the system.  They backtrack a possible path, and get some data from the shuttle.  A collecter somewhere hears of the ship and buys it, having much of the interior replaced.  The parts removed, such as the computer core, end up in some baragain basement type operation where a tech digs out the info on the derelict, one of the greatest urban legends of space.  Of course he gets wasted one night, confesses his knowledge to a good friend (member of the crew) and shows what he has.
   The crew aquire the core and set about secretly getting ready to go search out this thing when things go pear-shaped.  The tech wants a bigger cut, or more money or something and threatens to tell others the info, or outright retake the core.  One thing leads to another, and the tech is killed.  Perhaps by Fiona during a struggle with the Captain.
   Fiona, in a bought of exhiliration or guilt, tells her boyfriend about it, and he tells somebody else, and gets paid.  Maybe the crew do him in too when they discover that he's accessed the core?  Anyways, this leads to the great space chase at the beginning of the story.  It can also explain a bit of why Fiona is mad at the Captain, and why the crew still have a high regard for her.  She's not evil, just a victim of circumstance, of her humanity.

Anyways, this can manifest itself in several ways.  When she's bedded down after her rescue, she could confess to Matty "You know, I thought about not doing, about not fixing the jump node.  Just letting the last wire dangle, let the missiles hit.  We'd deserve it.  Retribution for our crimes."

Matty could respond with "Whether you had to or not, whether you meant to or not, TECH is dead.  That won't ever change.  I'm sure it's a hard thing to carry with you, something you'll wear heavily.  It's a hell of a thing."  long pause  "Why'd you do it?  Why not let that last wire dangle?"

FIONA:  "Because... because dying wouldn't be punishment enough..."

something along those lines.

Perhaps while she's unconscious, before this dialog, she could have quick flash dreams of the struggle with TECH, the killing blow/shot, the face of her boyfriend alive, then dead.  Perhaps she has a flash of intuition that she may be pregnant.

I think it'd be a very interesting comment on humanity, how many people continue to live just to right a wrong, of to punish themselves for misdeeds.  But it's obviously more than that.

Are they bad people?  Are they vicitims of circumstance?  What are teh crews true colors? (and do we really even need to explore that, just imply it)  Perhaps she'll turn on the crew in the end, when they find that the treasure isn't all gold and jewels.  Perhaps she'll caretake of them herself

Talking about the crew right? Maybe the innocent little girl did it.
LOL. She is young and sweet but evil. Stainless Steel Rat, Angelina,
pre mind fix.

I don't remember that and don't like it much. They should have had
their ship for a long time. IMOHO

I do like this!

OK

Not unless they were totally wasted. You want to keep cool old stuff
not replace it. Perhaps the computer was send in of refurbishments and
the Geeks find the info and sell it on the internet??
You don't buy a model T and put in a new engine unless you must.

Works for me.

Perhaps a disagreement about the how to handle the tech and she does
something that then forces her and the captain to kill him.

works too.

Sorry, I gag on that last line. Maybe, "In the last seconds, I just
could not do that to the rest of you.'

Just me, but I can't stand flash backs, time travel or flash forwards,
premonitions of any visual sort.

Yes and this stuff makes the story deeper too.

Imply is fine.

I really hope to hear from the rest of you about this too!
