I received the following email from Dan Coffey. Could you please spread the word? Thank you. Jennifer Johnston
Please put the word out (e mail Assembly members) and if possible on the web site that the pool issue will not be discussed on Tuesday as Mr. Jeff Dillon will be out of town. I would prefer that our constituents (Mine, Dick's, Jen's and Chris's) don't come out for no good reason. However you can get the word out, please do so.
Dan K. Coffey
Chairman

Subject: Pool Closure Threat
Jennifer,
I want to add my voice to the many concerned Anchorage residents regarding the threat to close the Service and Bartlett Pools. As you many know, all three of us Steer kids grew up swimming competitively. Our parents live on Lake O' The Hills (right below your lake) and we were not allowed to go there alone until we were proficient swimmers. Zack still holds the 100 yd. breast stroke record at his college and I still swim two to three times a week on a masters team at APU. Each time I've been injured from running or some other crazy activity, swimming is my fall-back activity. Until now, I have taken it for granted that we have a pool within a few miles of our house. It would be detrimental to the competitive and recreational swimmers and athletes in Anchorage to lose access to these two facilities. Drowning is a leading cause of death in Alaska and any chance we can to enhance an Alaskan's comfort in the water and proficiency as a swimmer should be taken advantage of. Please keep this in mind as you and the other assembly members work to find a solution other than closing pools.
Thank you for your time and your service on the assembly.
