REMINDER!!!!
Tomorrow – Tuesday, Nov. 6 – is the last opportunity to support pool funding in the city budget process.
If you want all 5 pools to remain open with full programming,
Please plan to attend the Assembly meeting at the Loussac Library at 6 p.m.
The public may give input on the operations and capital budgets at this time.
Fewer than 10 people spoke at the first public hearing on behalf of pools. These people are not allowed to speak again.
We need tri athletes, water aerobics, diving, kayaking, swim lessons, and other programs to be represented too.
We have picketed and rallied, but RIGHT NOW is when your voice needs to be heard.
Each speaker is allowed 3 minutes. You might want to draft a prepared statement and have it copied 12 times for the Assembly members and Mayor in case time constraints do not allow everyone to testify.
Let them know why you value pools in this community.
Assembly members will probably ask you where you think the money to fund pools should come from.
It’s OK to say you just don’t know.
(My own response was to maintain what we have before expanding new developments and programs. I also stated that pools need to be viewed as a community asset rather than a liability. Having a business plan that includes marketing, corporate sponsorships, and partnerships with schools and other users might be a start.)
Even if you do not want to speak, please plan to attend and lend support. High school and club swimmers are encouraged to attend also. Plan to bring your homework because the meetings tend to run late. The item is No. 14 on the agenda. I would eat dinner first, even if it means coming late since the public hearing portion of the agenda is scheduled a ways down on the list.
