CALLING ALL POOL PEOPLE!!!!!

Please attend the Assembly meeting at 6 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 23. The public hearing on the proposed city budgets for 2008-09 (Operating AND Capital) will take place at this meeting and again on Nov. 6. Pools could really use a voice here – or at least a presence if people do not want to speak directly to the Assembly.

To review the proposed budgets, go to www.muni.org and click on Assembly and then Assembly Agenda. Scroll down to items 14a, 14b, and 14c.

Please pass the word that NOW is a great opportunity for people to speak up for pools and make a difference.

Public Hearings

When the Chair opens the public hearing on a particular item on the agenda, it would be helpful if you were seated in the front of the auditorium near the public podium. When speaking to the Assembly, first introduce yourself and then provide any information and opinions that pertain to the agenda item. Support your testimony with as many facts as possible. The Assembly members may also ask you questions - just answer the questions to the best of your ability and don't be afraid to say "I don't know."

The issue of the swimming pools is part of the budget process. The 2008-2009 budget will be introduced at the Assembly meeting on October 9th. The first public hearing will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd and the second public hearing on Tuesday, November 6^th. The public hearing portion of Assembly meetings begins no earlier than 6 p.m. in the Assembly Chambers at the Loussac Library, though the Assembly often takes a break prior to beginning the public testimony. Agendas are published in the Anchorage Daily News on the Saturday preceding a meeting and are also available on our website at www.muni.org. The website also has a link to the documents.
