Hi all,

Hope you have all fared relatively well in this strange time!

I miss seeing all of you and I miss playing squash with you.  It seems unclear when squash will be something that will be part of our lives again.  I hope we can do it again safely and soon.

Anyone know of a well ventilated, outdoor court? 🤔

Rick

Rick et al.

yes it has been far too long.  I miss the game the our group.

i do not think good news is in the offing.  I have been in contact with my Basketball Reffing officials, and they are predicting no high school, or any, season next winter.  My college level contacts (since our courts are on college campuses) are planning and hoping they will play a limited schedule.   They are still debating the density of the crowds; from 100% to 0%.   officially they are optimistic but privately pessimistic.  They are worried about disease, but more importantly, legal liability.

so, uncertainty reigns (and our tears rain)

be safe everyone

Greetings from WI!
I was excited to learn that the squash club where I play in IL was opening last week, but dismayed when I learned that there was little attention paid to the safety of squash players - check out the "protections" my club is offering (attached).  What do you think?  I opted to suspend my membership until they do better! (The GM stopped responding to my emails when I sent her the USSquash guidelines and pointed out that they had skipped the first 3 phases of reopening!)
In the meantime, I'm doing Zoom workouts though IL squash - they bring in a different pro every Sunday morning to kick our butts.  They're really great - I highly recommend them.
Best to you all in this crazy time.  I hope to be able to visit Philly and to play squash with you again someday soon.

Good question.  US Squash has just recommended a phased return - starting with solo play, then adding play with family or people in your "bubble" etc.
I think it is silly to suggest social distancing when entering and exiting the court (as my club has done) when, as you point out, social distancing while playing is virtually impossible!

I am curious – how do you think squash players protect themselves?

Social distancing before getting on the court with someone for an hour does not seem to make much difference, and I don’t think wearing masks while playing would be practical (or make much difference given the contact involved, especially with people like Rich).  😊

Leslie,

Good to hear from WI.

Your club is acting similar to many players in my Saturday Ultimate group; putting out guidelines that cover all but the closest interactions, when social distancing is impossible, and just acting as if being safe all of the other times will make up for the lack of care when most important.

The frustration is understandable, we all feel it; the willingness to give in to that frustration but pretend we are not and put many at risk is not.

Rick

Hi from TN,
Our state is becoming a hotbed for COVID such that NJ/NY/CT will quarantine me if I visit there.
Squash courts are closed in Memphis since March also but the current plan is to reopen Aug 1st for now.  Don't know what plans they might have to decrease infection.
This is a strange time we live in and I cannot wait to get back to squash. The first day back will not be pretty.
Stay safe all and I'm for an effective vaccine early next year.
John
