From the Telegraph of 19 June 2026: MEXBOROUGH John Christopher George Savile, 8th Earl of Mexborough died peacefully at home on Tuesday 16th June aged 95. Adored husband, father and grandfather. Private family funeral, a service of thanksgiving to be announced for the autumn.

He was s of 7 Earl of MEXBOROUGH 1906-80 and Josephine Bertha Emily 1908-92 d of Capt Andrew Mansel Talbot FLETCHER 1880-1950 scion of the Scots gentry family of Saltoun and Frances Jane 1880-1953 d of Sir Francis Salwey WINNINGTON 5 Bt 1849-1931 and Jane d 1940 d of Lord Alfred SPENCER-CHURCHILL 1824-93 (s of 6 Duke of MARLBOROUGH 1793-1857, etc) and Hon Harriet Louisa Hester GOUGH-CALTHORPE 1832-1901 d of 4 Baron CALTHORPE 1790-1868 and Lady Charlotte Sophia SOMERSET 1795-1865 d of 6 Duke of BEAUFORT 1766-1835 by his wife a dau of 1 Marquess of STAFFORD 1721-1803, etc etc. 

He m first 1958 (div 1972) Lady Elizabeth Harriot GRIMSTON 1939-87 d of 6 Earl of VERULAM 1912-73 and Marjorie Ray DUNCAN d 1994, and had a son (Viscount Pollington who dvp sp 2024) and a dau. He m second 1972 Catherine Joyce b 1939 d of James Kenneth HOPE CBE 1896-1983 scion of that gentry family of West Park and Mary Joyce 1903-2004 d of Lt-Col (Richard) Rouse Boughton ORLEBAR 1862-1950 scion of that gentry family of Hinwick and Faith Henrietta BOURNE 1867-1951, and had a further son and a dau. His surviving son succeeds him.

JAMES HUGH HOPE JOHN Savile b 21 Aug 1976 9 Earl of MEXBOROUGH has yet to establish claim. He m 2010 Victoria Sian b 1979 reg Q3 Notts d of Nicholas FORMAN HARDY of Carl Colston, Notts, and had three sons.
