From the Telegraph of 16 June 2026: WHITWORTH Rebecca Louise (née Bowring) died peacefully at home on 13th June surrounded by her family. Devoted wife to Robert, much loved mother to Hugh and Mark and adored grandmother. Private funeral and service of thanksgiving to follow.

She was d of Richard Hardcastle BOWRING 1916-90 by his 1949 reg Q2 Westmorland to Gabrielle Edith 1923-88 d of James Winstanley CROPPER 1879-1956 sometime head of that gentry family of Ellergreen (and gs of 1 Viscount KNUTSFORD 1825-1914) and Marjorie Constance 1888-1951 d of Maj Josceline Fitzroy BAGOT 1854-1913 (gt gs of 1 Baron BAGOT 1729-98) and Theodosia 1865-1940 d of Sir John LESLIE 1 Bt 1822-1916 by his w a gd of 1 Earl of PORTARLINGTON 1744-98 as well gt gd of 3 Earl of BUTE 1713-92 and The Baroness MOUNT STUART 1718-94, etc. She m Robert St John b 1949 s of Maj Ian Henry WHITWORTH TD 1919-83 and Rosamund Audrey 1921-72 d of Lt-Col Allan St John BLUNT DSO 1880-1931 (2xgt gs of Sir Henry BLUNT 2 Bt 1696-1759) and Doris Elizabeth 1889-1948 d of John George STEPHEN of Douglas, Isle of Man, and had two sons as above.

The late Mrs Whitworth was a great-great-granddaughter of Benjamin BOWRING (1778 - 4 VI 1846), the founder of the Bowring trading, shipping and insurance businesses. She was a first cousin twice removed downwards of Sir William Benjamin BOWRING, 1st and last Bt (13 II 1837 - 20 X 1916), Lord Mayor of Liverpool from 1893 to 1894.
