Brigit Dorothea Connell was born in 1940. Her father, Frank Connell, was an architect and town planner in Edinburgh and her mother, Anne (née Forsyth), was a painter. While her elder siblings, Malcolm, Christopher and Reggie, were all born in Edinburgh, Brigit and her younger brother, Noel, were born in Malton, North Yorkshire, and delivered by their grandfather. Her childhood, she said, was “eccentric and middle-class” and mostly spent in Edinburgh. “We had nannies. My parents, I think, were quite delightful and always encouraged us to everything we were interested in.”…
…In 1975 she married Brian Mills, a TV producer who had directed her in the drama Adam Smith (1972). They separated amicably in 1999, seven years before his death. She is survived by their children Ben and Zoe…
