Wikipedia has linking articles to the Campbell-Orde baronets from Barons Bolton. But it also lists the Barons Scrope of Bolton. Is there any connection between the Barons Bolton and the Barons Scrope of Bolton? I don't think so at first glance.

There is certainly a genealogical connection.

The 2nd Duke of Bolton's mother was Lady Mary Leppington, née le Scrope, dau of Emanuel le Scrope, Earl of SUnderland and Lord Scrope of Bolton. The Orde-Powletts descend from the 5th Duke of Bolton.

Oh thanks for pointing that out Paul. I really need to read closer. I was trying to write out the genealogy of the Barons Bolton. I already did the Marquesses of Winchester incorporating Dukes of Bolton, so I guess I could place the Barons Scrope of Bolton and Earls of Sunderland under Winchester, M or Bolton, B as another lineage.

Thanks as always!

"Lady Mary"

As I understand it, the illegtimate daughters of Emanuel le Scrope were granted the rank of Earl's daughters.

I guess you can put any of their ancestors as another lineage, but Lady Mary and her sisters were born illegitimate so transmitted no rights to the old titles. The descent of the representation of the Barons Scrope of Bolton is given in Burke's Extinct Peerage. However, it is said that Lady Mary inherited many of the Scrope of Bolton estates.
