From the Telegraph and Times of 26 Feb 2016: HEATHCOTE AMORY  Michael, at home in London on Wednesday 24th February 2016. Much loved husband of Arabella; father of Edward, Lucy and Jessica; grandfather of Ludo, Lily, Sam, Zac, Jonah, Dora, Bobby and Carrie. The funeral will be in Devon. The date will be announced in due course.

He was s of Maj Edgar FitzGerald HEATHCOTE AMORY (1917-44), scion of the Bts of that name, and Sonia Myrtle (1921-99) d of Capt Edward Conyngham DENISON (1888-1960), scion of the LONDESBOROUGH barons, and Maria Amy Brabazon HEATON-ELLIS (1897-1994), scion of the gentry family of that name formerly of Wyddiall Hall. He m 1st 1965 (div 1970) Harriet Mary Sheila (b 1945 reg Q2 London) d of Lt-Gen Sir Archibald Edward NYE (1895-1967) and (Una Sheila) Colleen KNOX (1905-54), and had a son. He m 2nd (Sarah) Arabella Majorie d of Raimund VON HOFMANNSTHAL (d 1974) and Lady Elizabeth Hester Mary PAGET (1916-80) d of the 6th Marquess of ANGLESEY (1885-1947) and Lady Victoria Marjorie Harriet MANNERS (1883-1946, d of 8th Duke of RUTLAND), and had another son and a dau, all as above.

His sister is the Countess Cairns, wife of the present Earl Cairns.  His mother remarried her husband's cousin Roderick Heathcoat-Amory.

Lady Cairns has three sons, the eldest Viscount Garmoyle is married to a descendant of Sir Roderick Barclay of that banking family.

Michael had two DAUGHTERS by his second marriage, not a son and a daughter. Their names are given in the announcement:  Lucy and Jessica

His son Edward (b. 1967) - a political correspondent for the Daily Mail -  is father of Ludo, Lily, Sam(uel) and (Isaac)/Zac.  His daughter Lucy Blackwell (b. 1977) is mother of (Robert)/Bobby and (Caroline)/Carrie (b. 2015).  His younger daughter Jessica Green (b. 1979) is mother of Jonah and (Isa)Dora.

Michael and Amanda (Countess Cairns) have two siblings of the half blood by their mother's second marriage - David the MP (b. 1949) whose son Matthew died 2001, and Bridget (b. 1952) now Lady Beck.

Michael Heathcoat Amory (1941 - 2016)

It is with great sadness that I share with IOS members the news that Michael Heathcoat Amory died on the 24th of February.

His passion for oaks was made manifest in his arboretum at Chevithorne Barton, which will be enjoyed by many future generations. He contributed generously to acorn-collecting expeditions that enhanced other arboreta as well as his own.

He was proud of his involvement and support for the IOS and their support for his collection, often welcoming IOS members at Chevithorne and hosting an Oak Open Day in 2011.

A remarkable man whose legacy is one of the great oak collections in the world.

A memorial service will be held at St Luke's Church, Sydney Street, London SW3 6NH, on June 29, 2016, at noon.
