From the Telegraph of 11 June 2026: LONGFIELD Brigadier Desmond Richard Henry died peacefully at home on 6th June. Beloved husband for 66 years to Jenny (died Oct 2025). Adored father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather. Funeral to be held at St Mary's Church, Redlynch... on Thursday 2nd July at 2 p.m. No flowers please. Donations, if desired, via I.N. He was s of Col Richard James LONGFIELD 1901-87 scion of that Irish gentry family and Charlotte Mary 1903-2002 d of Brig-Gen Sir Bertram Percy PORTAL KCB DSO 1866-1949 (yst s of Sir Wyndham Spencer PORTAL 1st Bt 1822-1905) and Hon Margaret Louisa LITTLETON 1869-1930 d of 3rd Baron HATHERTON 1842-1930 and his wife a d of Sir Charles Robert ROWLEY 4th Bt 1800-88. He m 1959 Jennifer (Jenny) 1940-2025 d of Clement William Robert SPENCER-THOMAS 1905-89 (farmer) of Upper Honeydon, Bedford and Betty POTTER 1914-2010, and had a son and three daus.
