Sir Francis became a Trustee of the Ascot Authority in 2011, Chairman of Ascot Authority (Holdings) Ltd in 2018 and was appointed Queen Elizabeth II’s sixth and final Representative at Ascot in 2020. On the Accession of King Charles III in 2022 he became His Majesty’s Representative at Ascot.
His professional career has been in finance. After two years as an investment analyst, he moved into fund management in 1989. He spent eight years at Foreign & Colonial Management Ltd and then seven years at Mercury Asset Management (now part of Blackrock) before joining Troy Asset Management as a founding partner in 2004. He was an Investment Director at Troy until 31st December 2021 when he became Vice Chairman. He was appointed Chairman of Troy in March 2025.
His family has longstanding connections to and involvement in racing – both as owners and breeders. Sir Francis and his wife now breed racehorses themselves on a small scale. He is an enthusiastic owner-breeder and has enjoyed success on the track in both the UK and Ireland with horses such as El Presente, Chianti Classico and Pita Pinta.
