MUIR, (Sir) Richard James Kay MUIR (4th Bt) 1939-2023 and MUIR Lady Linda (Lady Linda Mar nee COLE) 1944-2023

From the Times of 20 Jan 2024: MUIR Linda and Richard Lady Linda Muir (nee Cole) on 3rd November 2023 and Richard on 18th December 2023 after short illnesses in Nakuru, Kenya, formerly of Blair Drummond, Scotland. Beloved mother of Daisy and Anna and father of the late Louisa, and Catharine, Daisy and Anna. A joint memorial will be held, date to be confirmed.

The 4^th Bt never established his claim and did not use title. He was s of Sir John Harling MUIR 3^rd Bt 1910-94 and Elizabeth Mary 1914-2008 d of Frederick James DUNDAS 1877-1950 (gt gs of 1^st Earl of ZETLAND 1766-1839 who was gf of 1^st Marquess of ZETLAND 1844-1929) and Sylvia Mary 1891-1976 d of Hugh MARCH PHILLIPPS DE LISLE 1859-1930 scion of the DE LISLE gentry family and Henrietta Mary Helen d 1938 d of ol Ewen GRANT of Glenmoriston, Inverness-shire. He m 1^st 1965 Susan Elizabeth d of George Albert GARDENER, and had two daus (Louisa 1967-2011 and Catharine b 1968). He m 2^nd Lady Linda Mar COLE b 1944 d of 6^th Earl of ENNISKILLEN 1918-89 and his 1^st w Sonia Mary 1918-82 d of Maj Thomas Scott SYERS MC c1883-1918 of Hove Sussex, and Mary Cicely NEVILL c1878-1963, and had a further two daus (Daisy b 1977 and Anna b 1979). His brother succeeds him: 

[Sir] IAN CHARLES Muir [5^th Bt] has yet to establish claim, b 16 Sep 1940. He m 1967 Fiona Barbara Elspeth d of Maj Stuart MACKENZIE and had issue (3 daus).

He m 1st 1969 (div 1993) Primrose Jean Onslow b 1947 d of Robert Boothby HOW d 1990 and Virginia Ruth Primrose HUGHES-ONSLOW 1917-97 (6xgt gs of Sir Arthur ONLSOW 1^st Bt 1624-88 scion of the ONSLOW earls) . He m 2nd 1993 as her 2^nd h Mrs Ann Mary Jenkins d of Air-Vice Marshal Edward John CORBALLY, and had issue by 1^st m: SON LIVING - Philip John Frederick b 18 June 1974, m 2001 (div 2010) Henrietta-Maria COSSART b 1974 (2xgt gd of 4^th Earl of CLANWILLIAM 1832-1907), and has issue living, Alfred Charlie Philip b 2003, Gio John Edward b 2008, Pearl Molly Jean b 2005. DAUGHTER LIVING - Alexandra Juliet, b 1971, m with issue.

James Francis b 11 Aug 1948. He m 1^st 1975 (div 2001) Griselda Catherine STAINTON. He m 2^nd 2002 Mrs Susan Margaret Hunt d of Dr Hugh HENDERSON, and had issue by 1^st m: SONS LIVING – John Alexander Hector b 5 Jan 1976, m 2010 Elizabeth A RICHARDSON, William Anthony Nathaniel b 5 June 1979, m 2008 Rebecca M L PELTENBURG.

DPB Online has now updated this page.

As Richard said in his previous post, the new (5th) Bt. is his brother, Ian Charles.  Interestingly,  at the beginning of the page, DPB Online says the 5th Bt. succeeded his "FATHER (Sir) Richard."

All other information is correctly contained in Richard's post.

Sir Ian Charles Muir is now entered on the Official Roll of the Baronetage as the 5th Baronet Muir of Deanston and Park Gardens, Glasgow.  This baronetcy has not been on the Roll since 1994

DPB online has been corrected to state that the present baronet succeeded his brother rather than his father.
