Hereditary Peers By-Election
Announcement in the House at 3.37 pm on 15 July 2009
The Clerk of the Parliaments announced the result of the by-election
to elect a Cross-Bench hereditary Peer in accordance with Standing
Order 10.
Twenty-seven Lords completed valid ballot papers. A paper setting out
the complete results is being made available in the Printed Paper
Office and the Library. That paper gives the number of votes cast for
each candidate. The successful candidate was LORD ABERDARE.

The by-election follows the death of Viscount Bledisloe on 12 May,
reported in an earlier posting by Phoen on 15 May:

Just for the sake of completeness;

Alastair John Lyndhurst Bruce, 5th Baron Aberdare UK 1873 (born May 2,
1947) is the son of Morys George Lyndhurst Bruce, 4th Baron Aberdare
and Maud Helen Sarah Dashwood, daughter of Sir John Dashwood, 10th Bt.
The 5th Baron succeeded his father upon the 4th Baron's death in 2005.
He married Elizabeth Mary Culbert Foulkes in 1971, they have two
children: The Hon. Hector Morys Napier Bruce b. 1974 and The Hon.
Sarah Katherine Mary Bruce b. 1976
