Amongst the hereditary peers the top 350 also includes Grantchester, Vesty, Iliffe and Charlotte Townshend daughter of  the ninth  Viscount Galway

The Duke of Sutherland has disappeared from the top 350 also none of the wealthiest Marquesses make the top 350,Salisbury,Cholmondeley,Bath,Northampton and Milford Haven

Does the list count family trusts that are functionally controlled by peers, or is it strictly money/property/assets in their personal possession? I ask because I'm surprised not to see the Duke of Buccleuch on here, I know they've downsized some over the years but as far as I know they still own 150,000+ acres of land, three country houses, and countless pieces of valuable artwork. Or maybe that's just not enough to rank anymore, who knows

The entry point for this year's list is to have measurable wealth of £340m or more (the list is longer on line than in print). Here's what they say on their methodology etc:

The Sunday Times Rich List 2026 is based on our estimates of the minimum wealth of Britain’s 350 richest people or families. The valuations were carried out between November 2025 and April 24, 2026.

The combined wealth of the top 350 is £784 billion — a sum larger than the annual GDP of Belgium ($776 billion), Sweden ($760 billion) and Israel ($719 billion). It represents about a quarter of the United Kingdom’s total annual GDP.

The compilers of the Rich List measure identifiable wealth — such as land, property, racehorses, art or significant shares in publicly quoted companies. We exclude bank accounts to which we have no access and small shareholdings in a private equity portfolio. The actual size of someone’s fortune may be significantly larger than our conservative figures.

… Family trusts are also aggregated and included where visible. We distinguish trusts held on behalf of family members, usually children and grandchildren, which we include as family wealth, and charitable trusts, which are not included.

Land is valued on what and where it is. Most valuable is London land with planning permission, then other urban land, then good farming, forestry, poor farming and finally desolate land. We take account of shooting and fishing rights. Estimates of agricultural land values have been given by Strutt & Parker, the land agency and chartered surveying group….

There was a dispute between  the Duke of Buccleuch and the Sunday Times a few years ago. He stated that his wealth was over estimated.When the list extended to 1,000 most of the non royal Dukes appeared at one time or another apart from the three "poor" Dukes Leinster,Manchester and St Albans

Saint Albans did appear in the first list in 1990, can't remember the exact amount.

In his Daily Telegraph Obit earlier this year it was stated the title came with "no money".

It was 15 to 20 million that he was listed as, something to do with business and accounting. I will have find the book.

I suppose  fifteen million would be "no money" to many of those listed in the top half of the list.Also the Royal Dukes of Kent and Gloucester would probably count as "poor" Dukes

In Brian Master’s book The Dukes he said the 13th Duke after his accession resigned from the civil service and went into the City.Later in retirement he became a tax exile in Monaco.

The 14th Duke was a chartered accountant and owned a house in Chelsea.

There has been no seat for the family since Bestwood Lodge in Nottingham was sold.It is now a hotel,surrounded by suburbia.
