From the Telegraph of 10 Nov 2020: HANKINSON - Lavinia Lascelles. Died peacefully at home on 3rd November 2020, aged 97. Singer devoted to her craft. Adored by her extended family: Caroline Erskine (formerly Lyttelton); Nick Renton and Valerie Dunphy, Simon Renton and Rachel Smith, Caroline and Haig Ghazaros; Alan and Megan, Zoë and Tom, Josh, Catríona and Henry, Aisling, Julia and Toby, Claudia and Mark, Izzy and Toby; Dolly, Jake, Imogen, Mabel, Ben, Jack, Leo and Maxim; and Mark and Camilla Hankinson, Piers and Victoria Hankinson, Isabel and Lucy, George, Lizzie; and by her many friends and relatives. “The further my voice carries, The clearer it echoes.” (Schubert/Müller)
She was d of Capt Rt Hon Sir Alan Frederick LASCELLES GCB GCVO CMG MC (1887-1981, gs of 4th Earl of HAREWOOD (1824-92) etc), sometime Private Secretary to King GEORGE VI & Queen ELIZABETH II, and Hon Joan Frances Vere THESIGER (1895-1971) d of 1st Viscount CHELMSFORD (1868-1933). She m 1st 1946 (div 1970) Maj Edward Westland RENTON (1912-75) and had two sons. She m 2nd 1962 (div 1964) the author Gavin MAXWELL (1914-69) gs of Sir Herbert Eustace MAXWELL of Monreith 7th Bt (1845-1937) and gs of 7th Duke of NORTHUMBERLAND (1846-1918) etc. She m 3rd 1969 (as his 2nd w) Cdr David Kyrle HANKINSON RN (1928-2011) son of Ernle George HANKINSON (1893-1959) and his 1st wife Hilda Murielle (?c1893-1963) dau of William SYKES of Selden Court, Patching, Sussex.
