He was the son of Lt (Norman ) Bruce PAKENHAM CD RCN (1923-2011), scion of the Earls of Longford being descended from the yst son of the 1st Baron Longford and the (1st) Countess of Longford, and (m 1945) Alice Marie nee JENSEN (decd?).  He m 1987 (Patricia) Lynne BROWN nee GARNER and had a son (James) Bryce Wellesley b 1988
