Mary Elizabeth Howard (the Hon Mrs Patrick Howard), some-time Mary
Quant mannequin and philanthropist, wife of a scion of the Earls of
Suffolk and Berkshire, and descended from the Royden Baronets, died as
the result of an accident, 9 Nov, 2008, aged 63. She was b in
Cheshire, 3 Jan 1945, dau of Dr Clarence Laverne Johnson (and his
Royden wife); married 1966, the Hon Patrick Greville Howard (b 1940),
yr son of the 20th Earl of Suffolk & Berkshire.

Mary Howard was the Queen of Christmas fairs, having raised more than
a £1 million for numerous charities including the NSPCC and Help for
Heroes. She created and ran the Mary Howard Sales, which began in the
1980s and became the largest arts, crafts and home-cooked food fairs
in the UK. In 2005 she was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the
NSPCC for
her tireless efforts on their behalf.
